Peter Pan: A magical flight

Written: Apr 18 '06
Pros:Fun for all ages. Recreates the world of Peter Pan quite well.
Cons:There’s always a line.
The Bottom Line: Fun for all ages. Recreates the world of Peter Pan quite well.

This was one of the original rides in Disneyland when it opened. It was remodeled in 1983 along with several other Fantasyland attractions. And it is also the most popular ride in Fantasyland with a line at all times.

The queue line.
The queue line is pretty boring. It all happens outside in a winding line. Average wait time is 15-20 minutes.

The cars
The cars are suspended and do not ride on the floor. This gives the riders a sense that they are really flying. The cars actually are pretty neat but visibility is a little bit limited. The cars do not shake back and forth much. It would have been nice to have cars like Soar’in so that visibility wasn’t an issue or even have a car that acts like a suspended roller coaster. I can dream can’t I?

The ride.
The ride takes you through the story of Peter Pan. You first start off in the nursery. Then you fly out of the bedroom window and you find yourself flying around London. You take a few minor turns and enter the second room that is Never Never Land. This is a dark room also that has fiber optic light creating a star like effect. The island is in the middle and you get a good view of it.
The next part of the ride is the scene of Peter Pan and Captain Hook fighting. In the first scene you see the set up for the fight. As you turn and go to the front half of the ship (which is separated by the sail) you see a different scene, Peter Pan at the helm and the boys are free from their bindings. You end the ride with seeing the mermaids and you exit the ride.

When does it close.
Because of the fireworks around the castle, this ride is closed about 1.5 hours before the fireworks show. But you can use this as an advantage, as soon as the show is over head straight to this ride and be one of the first in line without having to wait.

Who is this for?
Kids of all ages. My children love this ride and always want to go on it. It is neat but far from exciting. Don’t expect any roller coaster effects, it is pretty tame.

Location.
Fantasyland in Disneyland; Anaheim, California. It is southeast of the carousel.

Hidden Mickey’s
On the backside of Big Ben there is a silhouette of Mickey waving.
Some people say the cannon balls form one but the ratio isn’t right.

Trivia
The blocks in the children’s room spell Disney and PP (for Peter Pan).
