Pros:Rich look, fun taste
Cons:Boxed may never get the respect of bottled wines
The Bottom Line: Peter Vella Vineyards around for three generations presents a fruity wine that's a delight to the taste buds.
I was in a restaurant one time and I noticed people at the next table enjoying a glass of the house wine. I heard the gentleman ask if he could see the bottle the wine was taken from. A moment later the server (no sommelier here) came out with a box, not a bottle! I did laught to myself but that tells me that though boxed wines are not in the category of fine wines, some restauranteurs have no problem serving it. Corks are becoming a rarity. Will bottles fade away too making room for cardboard?

In our household we have been purchasing boxed wines for years. Never having paid more than $20 for a bottle of wine, I don't believe I ever will. My wife, like the person who doesn't KNOW art but knows what they like, enjoy particular wines no matter the "frame" it is presented in.
Vella Vineyards presents Delicious Red as their California Table Wine. We like it. Hey the chefs of Chef'sBest also like it awarding it the Chef's Best Award for Best taste 2009, A very good year?!
The box is easy enough to open but care must be taken to pull the spout out and lock it into position. Once done it's an easy and convenient way of receiving glass after glass directly from the regrigerator shelf. We keep this wine refrigerated after opening.
Peter Vella Delicious Red pours a bright but light ruby red. Legs? Ha, nothing there. Aroma? Light and fruity. Taste? That's where the fruit pours in like a mild, light bodied Sangria. It has a sugary front that is sure to favour the sweet tooth yet, offers a bit of tartness at finish. This is an interesting wine to swirl around the mouth offering a merry-go-round of fun flavours. Though it's light bodied it stands up well to my wife's rich tomato sauces. Psst! She makes a couple of specialties that are even better than my moms.
Vella Delicious Red is a 100% grape wine with a 9.6% alcohol content I can recommend, boxed or not . No airs here. Just a delightful joyride of fruity flavours.
