I bought the medium sized maroon and beige Petmate Kennel Cab for the purpose of getting my cats to the vet. For the reasonable price I paid at PetSmart, it does its job.
The carrier has plastic clips to remove the upper part from the lower part, which can be used as a pet bed, or easily stacked inside each other for storing away.
The top of the lid has a compartment with a water dish included, but honestly, it's so small and I only use the carrier to transport the cats on short trips to the vet and back, so I wouldn't need the water dish anyway. You could probably use the compartment to store some treats for a short trip.
The door of the carrier is stainless steel with a secure, sturdy and easy to open and close latching system. The door can also be placed on either the right or the left side so it can be opened from whichever side is more convenient for the pet owner.
The top sides of the carrier have holes for ventilation, as well as to see your pet while traveling.
The handle is recessed, so the top is flat when the handle is in the down position, which makes for easier storing if the top is being stored inside the bottom half. The handle is sturdy plastic.
My only complaint about this carrier, is that the plastic clips are not easy to release to take the 2 sections apart. I end up leaving the carrier together and just storing it in one piece when I don't need it. It's not worth breaking fingernails over. :) I also wish it had a top door for cats that don't like being put in a carrier.
