The Calming Treat Ball is made up of hard two toned plastic on the bottom (yellow and orange) and a softer but durable rubber on top with 13 holes, and knotted fabric loops throughout for chewing. The Calming Treat Ball offers several activities to keep any puppy or dog busy. And keeping them busy also keeps them calm.
What this toy does is it encourages a dog to concentrate as well as it presents a challenge for them. Placing large sized treats inside the tops holes can teach the puppy or grown dog to become more patient as it tries to get them out of the ball.
This keeps an active dog still. It keeps puppies engaged in a learning activity.
By using the larger sized treats they won't fall out as easily until the dog works patiently to break the treats down to a smaller size. I usually put puppy bones into this toy.
The directions suggest stretching the holes to put in the larger treats so that they don't fall out as easily. The treats should not fall out on their own. This makes sense. At first I used the smaller bone biscuits which did fall out. But then by putting in the larger ones, I discovered it keeps my puppy's interest longer.
The ball is quite durable and it can be thrown around without too much worry. I usually find it in different parts of the family room, and of course this tells me that my puppy has been working hard at trying to get a treat to come out.
I usually give her this ball when I'm home so I can supervise its use.
Petstages always put on their packaging to check any of these toys for wear and tear and rips. They warn if parts become separated they may cause an injury.
I've noticed that because I have such a variety of toys for my puppy, which I rotate so she doesn't get bored with them, I have very little if any chewed furniture legs, or any type of destruction that a puppy or grown dog can do.
When I leave my puppy alone, she has mostly toys that are very rugged and durable to play with. When I come home, I check around and it becomes apparent that she had been behaving herself during my absence.
One reason I think after having her for almost three months, she has earned more freedom of the house. While I'm away I close the puppy gate. When I'm home the puppy gate stays open all the time.
These soothing toys I also believe help acclimate any new puppy or dog to their new environment in such a way that they become a better trained dog and a pleasure to be around.
Believe me I would not have said this two months ago when I had not only the puppy gate but also the penned area to keep my puppy out of trouble. The puppy pens are now being stored in the garage, and I will probably be put them up for sale on Ebay sometime in the future.
The Calming Treat Ball is one more nice addition to a puppy or dog's toy box area.
