| dewey's Full Review: Petzl Ouistiti C68 |
This excellent harness by Petzl is designed for use by children. Refer to the manufacturer's page for more information. The listed product info on this site is not for the Ouistiti. If you have small children (under 80 lbs. and 5 ft.) who you want to start climbing, then this is definitely THE best harness you can buy. The harness is adjustable both in the legs and chest area so it can grow as your child does. This harness will not fit real small kids so make sure you have them try it on before you buy or at least make sure you can return the harness if it doesn't fit. Many shops will not let you return climbing gear, so check before you buy.
The Ouistiti design makes it extremely usable for young climbers. Since it's a fully integrated leg and chest harness your child will have maximum comfort and you will have maximum peace of mind This type of design can greatly reduce the risk of injury because tying into a harness at the chest keeps the young climber upright at all times. The position of the tie-in helps prevent head injuries during rappels and/or falls. Children should also wear helmets when climbing! As with most Petzl product, the Ouistiti is a top-notch harness with excellent durability. It comes in easy to see bright colors with fun patterns. It also comes with its own zippered nylon case. Though I don't have any children (yet) I know several people who have bought this harness and been very happy with it. When I do have children this will definitely be the harness I buy! The family that climbs together stays together:)
The Ouistiti is more expensive than your average adult harness, but the extra money is well worth it. If you want your children to learn to climb you might as well get them into the best and safest gear possible. There's no sense in trying to save a few bucks when it comes to safe climbing for your kids. Stored properly (cool, dry and out of the light) this harness will last and can be used by another young one.
