I would recommend this headlamp to anyone, period.
I had bought some cheap headlamps before, including the adjustable strap Maglight holder, and been very disappointed. Once I started using the Tikka XP I was overly impressed.
I have used it camping and hiking and love it for that, the strap and mount being comfortable and adjustable whether wearing a toque, had or just plain on your head. It is great for when plowing around in the tent trying to get everything organized before going to bed, or any time when you would like to have light and free hands. I found it especially nice camping when getting up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom.
I've also taken it hunting when I got a deer just before sunset and had to do the field dressing in the dark. This was indispensible in providing a bright field of light directed right at my hands allowing me to properly see what I was doing.
But having bought the different colored lens diffusers kit that is available, I use the Tikka XP mostly in another capacity. The strap tightens small enough to wrap around any vehicle sun visor, so I use it in my truck at night as a superior maplight for writing notes, reading a map or other info. Red, green or blue light doesn't blind you at night and doesn't call attention to yourself, the latter an important point for the vehicle based neighbourhood watch group I volunteer with. A white interior light is like putting a spotlight on yourself at night, but I can turn on the Tikka with the red diffuser slid over and see or write any info I need, and still remain unobtrusive.
I liked it so much, I bought two! I just hope they don't stop making it, especially with its great features. It is one of my favorite pieces of kit. I highly recommend this headlamp.
