| Freak369's Full Review: Pez Disney Mickey Mouse and Friends [12CT Box] |
I was never a big fan of Mickey Mouse, to me he was nothing more than an annoying rodent that was always managing to escape harm at the last minute. Yeah, I cheered for the coyote, root for the underdog and thought that Dracula was way cooler than Van Helsing. I am however a lover of Pez so it went without saying that I would get the Mickey Mouse Pez dispenser; and with that came his rather annoying friends. This set includes six standard Pez dispersers of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Daisy, Goofy, Donald Duck and Pluto. They are made of a thick plastic with a tip-back head that dispenses the patented Pez candy. Each character comes individually sealed in a plastic pouch along with two rolls of candy. The dispensers will not accommodate other types of candy and so far I have never seen any 'counterfeit' or knock-off Pez candy but people say that it does exist.
Mickey Mouse & Friends Pez Dispenser Collection
The detail that the dispensers have is top notch; from the bow in Minnie's hair [including the white dots] to the eyelashes on Daisy, the designers stuck with the original versions of the characters. It is hard to peg one as being better than the rest because they all have such great detail to them. The stems are different colors and from what I have seen of the collection online as well as what other collectors have amassed, the stem colors are unique to each individual character. Simply put, Daisy has a purple stem, Minnie has pink, Donald blue and the rest have red. All the ones that I have seen or come across have had these specific colors. Someone did report that they had a Mickey with a blue stem but it was later debunked as a hoax; he switched the head with the stem of another dispenser.
Each character has his or her own lovable parts; Goofy has the buck teeth and Daisy has that sort of sultry look to her. Jackson loves Disney Playhouse and when the Mickey show comes on, well, it's all over with, there is no changing the channel. I took that time to check out the dispensers against the animated and computer enhanced characters and for the most part they are dead on balls accurate. There are some parts of the dispensers that do need to be handled with care; Goofy's hat, the bows on both Daisy and Minnie and Mickey's ears. Under normal use these wont break but kids will be kids and accidents can happen. I have never had any of them break but I have heard of these pieces getting cracked or chipped off the dispensers so you may want to keep that in mind if you are buying these for younger kids.
These have a suggested retail price of $1.00 to $2.00 depending on where you are shopping. If you have a candy wholesaler in your area and need more than a few of them, that is the place to go to get the best price. For individual ones Wal-Mart usually has all of the Pez assortments for .97 cents. When you buy them by the box you are getting twelve individually sealed dispensers that come with two rolls of candy. You are not guaranteed to get two of each dispenser in a box so you may have to buy some loose ones to even things out. Some sites and stores sell the dozen count boxes for upwards of fifteen dollars; I paid seven for mine. That isn't the average price so unless you get them with a ripped up box or with a dispenser missing, you are going to pay a little bit more for the box. It does open up so you can have the dispensers on display if you are planning on selling them but it also makes for a cute collectible item for Mickey Mouse lovers.
In addition to the individual sleeves and dozen count boxes you can also find these mounted on cards; if you are going to collect them to save them for resale at a later time [you will have to sit on these for a while to get them to appreciate] that is the way to go because the dispensers will be completely visible. The plastic sleeves are nice and they are easier to store but after a while they get wrinkled and lose some of the visual appeal. No matter how you buy them, this is a great set from Disney and Pez and something that can be enjoyed by just about everyone. These are great for Christmas stockings, Easter baskets, birthday party favors or just as a small gift to toss on someone's desk to drive them crazy. Seriously, spend a dollar and buy one of these and leave it on someone's desk with no note or card. The will go bonkers trying to figure out where it came from and why they received it.
The Bottom Line
There are only a few cons to these dispensers but as long as you stress to kids that these can break, you shouldn't have any problems. The partnership between Pez and Disney is a strong one so there really isn't any chance of these being discounted any time soon so if you are buying these to make money off them, you are going to have to wait a long time for that to happen. Even though I am not a huge fan of Mickey and his friends I did want to get these and add them to my collection. They all have the signature Pez logo on the side of the stem, are made to Pez and Disney standards and are something that will last a long time if you take care of it. Stuff them in a piñata, Easter basket or Christmas stocking [they are kosher so hey, they are even great for Hanukah] and watch a kids face light up when he gets his first Pez dispenser. Refill candies cost about a dollar for ten packs so when you run out, restocking isn't an expensive proposition.
As always, thanks for the visit
