dsnider2006's Full Review: Pharmavite Soyjoy Fruit and Soy Bar, Peanut Chocol...
I bought this bar looking for a low-sugar, high-protein snack with a reasonable amount of calories. I normally love Peanut Butter and Chocolate, so I though the Peanut Chocolate Chip SoyJoy Bar would do the trick. At first I thought I would buy a whole box, but I ended up sorry enough after buying a single bar.
The flavor is awful! I realize that they are based on whole soybeans, so they may have a slightly different mouth feel than something made from wheat flour. That does not excuse the weird, bitter flavor and the fact that they have the unique ability to suck every last bit of moisture from your mouth on the first bite. You must have some sort of liquid around if you intend to eat one of these. The huge hunks of raisins were another turn-off. The raisiny flavor overwhelmed everything, even the chocolate, and chocolate is normally a strong flavor. The texture of the raisins was even worse, kind of rubbery and gelatinous. There would be much better ways to incorporate raisins into a bar without making it taste like they are the only ingredient.
At first, I thought the size was too small as well. They are barely four inches long and an inch wide. However, given the flavor, that was more than enough. On a bar that tasted good, it would not be big enough.
The calorie count was good, at 140 calories, but the bar only had 3 grams of protein and fiber. It also still has 11 grams of sugars, 16 total grams of carbs.
Even worse than the flavor, the size, and the lack of nutritional value, the aftertaste hung around long after the bar was gone. What a waste of money. I'll buy Kashi bars next time.
The one and only good quality about these bars is the ingredient list. Whole soybeans, raisins, pineapple, sugar (instead of high fructose corn syrup), butter, peanuts-it all sounds so healthy and tasty. Apparently, mixing these together results in a nightmare.
Allergy sufferers should avoid this bar at all costs, since it covers pretty much every top allergen other than strawberries.
I would NEVER eat these again and only recommend them to my worst enemies.
