Pros: Reads CD-RW discs, good battery life, 40 second shock protection
Cons: No seperate line out jack
The Bottom Line: In my opinion, this is a model that would make anybody happy, especially considering the fact that it plays CD-R and CD-RW discs.

| rfman's Full Review: Philips AZ9101 Personal CD Player |
I recently bought this CD player for 65$ (100$ Canadian) at the local Wal-Mart, as it claimed to be able to read CD-Rewritable discs (audio disks, not MP3 disks). It turns out that for very little money, I got a nice little player that is more than good enough for anybody I know.
The styling of the unit seems to be inspired by the "iMac trend", and you either like it or dislike it. I like it, and it's neat to see the disk spinning in the unit.
The unit reads CD-RW disks impressively well. The manual states that it can take up to 10 seconds before a CD-RW disc starts playing. It always started immediately for me. Sound quality is good, with 2 levels of bass boost and 40 second shock protection memory. The headphones included are surprisingly good, although not top of the line.
Battery life is also good, averaging about 12-15 hours per set of AA batteries.
The only thing missing on the unit is a fixed-level line-out jack to connect it to a stereo system or to amplified speakers. This can be done through the headphone jack, but you need to fiddle with the volume to get the output level right.
