| realmaniac's Full Review: Philips Acoustic Edge Sound Card |
This card is powered by Philips very own Thunderbird core, and yet it rocks! Supporting 5.1 channel, which suitable to use with Software DVD player such as WinDVD, the quality just so good that it even sounds better than SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 series. The card also capable of upmix the stereo source (such as Audio CD Tracks, Stereo Games and etc) into simulated 5.1 channel sounds using software, this perform nearly as good as Dolby Prologic. In term of compatiblity, this card works well with Windows Envoirioment, it works with DirectSound, DirectSound3D and other major sound standard as well, thought it doesnot really good in Creative's EAX, it run, but it taxxes ur CPU resources! Along the card itself, you get a G-9 cable that split the stereo plugs into 3 set, to connect with your 5.1 channel speaker. And yet, this card accept line-in, mic-in and as well as Optical SPDIF in from CD-Rom. It uses PCI bus, and works well with system without any problem. not to mention the bundled software, they are working well. I encouter a litle driver prob in Win XP, exspecially with EAX decoding games.
