| mrdata2's Full Review: Philips CDR800 4-Disc CD Changer / Recorder |
The beauty of this CD Recorder? it is very easy to use. It is designed for the average non-technical, home user. If you don't want to have to take an advance course in electronics just to learn how to copy your old LP records onto Compact Disc's, then this is the recorder for you. Simple, easy to use is a good thing.
It even comes with a video to show you how to make your own custom music CD's. Like most CD Recorders, it is necessary to use audio CD-R discs if you want to play your CD on other players, like in your car. However, you can also use audio CD-RW to create a "master" disc from which you can make extra copies onto CD-R discs, or experiment until you have your CD exactly the way you want it.
You can use any quality brand of audio CD-R/RW media. You are not limited to only the Philips brand of audio CD's.
This recorder comes with a full range of jacks, meaning that you have a line in and line out jack so you can connect your turntable directly to this recorder, if you want. You can also connect your receiver directly to this recorder. I have an old classic Marantz receiver that works great with this recorder.
I also use this recorder as a CD Player and can load 3 CD's for hours of continuous playback. It also has a remote control. This is a great CD Recorder!
One quirky item. When I want to play back a CD, I need to disconnect the Recorder from the wall outlet and then reconnect it before I turn it on. For some reason, leaving it plugged into the wall outlet causes the Recorder to not recognize it has a CD in it. Its a minor issue for me, like flipping an extra switch, but it may be unforgivable for others.
Philips technical staff don't see a problem with this arrangement.
I would still recommend this recorder because it is so easy to use and make your own CD's.
