I bought this recorder and had nothing but trouble from the get go. The recorder would not power up until I pulged and unpluged the power cord about fifteen times (Software issue). The unit powers up but will not play thru a dvd movie without freezing up.

I contact philips for a software upgrade, this fixes a lot of the freezing, skipping issues but not completly. The 1500 recorded adequately, but then started to turn itself off in the middle of a recording session.

I have done a little research into Philips. I am finding there are more than a couple of products they have released the are inherently problematic Lcos tv's for example, in addition to the DVDR 1500.
