Preamble
I first became aware of Philosophy's products about two years ago. What I find with most of their products is that I either really love them or really hate them. Thankfully, this is one that I love and whenever I visit Philosophy's web site or whenever I'm in the mall, I make sure that I pick up a new tube of it.
Philosophy - The Company
Cristina Carlino is the brain behind Philosophy. Prior to creating this line of products, she was creater, founder and CEO of the BioMedic line. If you're not familiar with BioMedic, it's a medical skin care company that specializes in in-office peels and products for environmentally damaged skin, hyper pigmentation and acne.
Their approach to the marketing of their products is unique. First thing you'll notice is that they use lowercase lettering. They say that it "embraces the childhood consciousness in all of us". Second, their packaging is very plain. The bottles are a cloudy white with black lettering and black caps. Third, all of their products are packaged with some sort of neat philosophical type statement.
Although Philosophy does not do animal testing on their products, they do admit that ingredients from their products may have been tested by someone else in another time period.
Philosophy is deeply committed to having satisfied customers. Their approach about their products is that if you like it, use it. If not, return the product for a full refund.
What Is The Great Mystery?
the great mystery is the great debate. people ask "how" the universe was created, when the more important question is "why" it was created at all.
This is part of Philosophy's in-home peel system. It promises to deeply clean, exfoliate, and purify your skin without irritating it.
The Great Mystery comes in a five ounce tube with a black flip top cap. When you squeeze out the product, you don't have to worry about it coming out all at once. The mask material is made out of a medium thick pasty clear gel. It reminds me a lot of the consistency of hair gel - oh yes - and of other things :).
There's a very light smell to it. It's not fruity or floral...If you can think of another word that describes a light scent that seems to clear up your nasal and chest areas (no not-bengay strong), let me know :).
Who should use The Great Mystery? Anyone who has congested pores and dull and/or sensitive skin.
Me and The Great Mystery
There's nothing I like better than to be able to jump into the shower and incorporate something within my routine that takes a minute.
The Great Mystery's directions say apply the great mystery on clean skin from hairline to bust line for immediate smoothing and silkening effects to the skin. massage, then rinse. use as often as you like. best when followed with a hydrating scrub such as the greatest love. You only need to have it on for a minute for it to give you results.
After washing my face, I applied The Great Mystery. Within milli-seconds of applying it, I could feel a rush of warmth similar to what I've felt when I've gone and gotten a full day of spa treatment.
Rinsing it off was very easy. I chose to just stick my face under the shower head and let it flow off. Make sure if you do this, to keep your eyes closed. This stuff can burn! I did end up having a little more on me that I just wiped off with my wash cloth.
The only complaint I had during this experience is that my cheeks were a little drier than they are used to being.
The next time I used it, I went whole hog and decided to apply it to my face, shoulders, and bust line area. Momma! That was a fantastic experience. My skin felt like it just received a bolt of excitement. It was all tingly (in a good way folks) and the warmth felt scrumptious.
When I went to rinse it under the shower head, it easily came off. My skin felt silky soft and very happy :).
Overall, no matter what part of my body I put it on, the warmth it generates and the smell it gives off is extremely relaxing. And yes, my skin does feel purified. (This is better than having to go to confession people!)
I've mentioned the fact that you should keep this away from your eyes. Another thing is that if you have any open sores/wounds or have just shaved your legs (and your legs are sensitive), you might have issues with a burning sensation should you apply it in any of those areas.
The End
I really wanted to give this five stars but because it's drying to my cheek area, I just can't. Those of you who don't have this problem will adore this product. I use it whenever I feel like I need to have a special treat :).
