Preamble
Up until a few years ago, exfoliation was a foreign term to me. Now that I know about it, I'm almost addicted to keeping those dead skin particles off of my bod. I love the feeling of soft skin (especially when it's mine).
Through a process of trial and error, I think that I have tried almost every thing out on the market. So far, Philosophy's Heaven On Earth has worked the best for me.
Philosophy - The Company
Cristina Carlino is the brain behind Philosophy. Prior to creating this line of products, she was creator, founder and CEO of the BioMedic line. If you're not familiar with BioMedic, it's a medical skin care company that specializes in in-office peels and products for environmentally damaged skin, hyper pigmentation and acne.
Their approach to the marketing of their products is unique. First thing you'll notice is that they use lowercase lettering. They say that it "embraces the childhood consciousness in all of us". Second, their packaging is very plain. The bottles are either clear or cloudy white with black lettering and black caps. Third, all of their products are packaged with some sort of neat philosophical type statement.
Although Philosophy does not do animal testing on their products, they do admit that ingredients from their products may have been tested by someone else in another time period.
What Is Philosophy's Heaven On Earth?
Heaven On Earth is an exfoliation treatment, trapped in a 16 ounce, clear bottle. Philosophy wants you to see this product as some exotic spa-type exfoliation treatment and guess what? I think it is :).
Philosophy promises you that products like self-tanning treatments and other things that need to absorb evenly will work even better if you use Heaven On Earth.
Currently, you can only find this product in a 16 ounce bottle for approximately $22.00.
Does It Work?
Flip open the black cap on the bottle and inhale that scent! The product's scent is very difficult for me to describe. It has a very clean, non-antiseptic smell to it.
When you pour out the pearly/minty-green product, at first, it feels very creamy and smooth on your palm. I wondered if it was kind of like Clinique's one exfoliating body scrub where the actual grains were so microscopic that you don't really feel them.
No need to worry though because once you start rubbing Heaven On Earth on your various body parts (and I recommend that you do!) the grains are very apparent. In a way, they remind me of Origins Salt Rub. The entire product has a foaming affect and the grains seems to release some sort of moisturizing formula.
Philosophy tells you to either distribute the product on a wash cloth or use your hands. I'm all about the hands baby!
By the way, a little bit goes a long way. You don't need to use a lot to get the foaming affect or the great clean, moisturizing feeling.
When I step out of the shower after using Heaven On Earth,, I feel like a new woman. The scent, which is just heavenly during application, doesn't stick around and interfere with any of your other beauty product scents.
I find that when I use Heaven On Earth and then shave and/or apply self-tanning products, my legs seem to look better, stay hairless longer (as if!) and the self-tanning stuff is SO much easier to apply.
For those of you with sensitive skin, let me tell you that there are many exfoliating products out there that tend to turn my skin red and sometimes it becomes very itchy. With this product, I have absolutely no issues.
A word of caution - as with any other exfoliating product - dont' use this AFTER just shaving. It may sting those parts of your skin and leave you with a bad taste about the product :).
Product Philosophy
remember the days when time was ours and all that really mattered was the moment we were about to experience? with our precious child consciousness, we would press our backs to the earth, feeling the grass beneath us as we gazed up to the blue skies above. our imaginations broke wild and our hearts ran free. not only could we see faces dancing in the clouds, we could see forever. heaven on earth is as much a place as it is a feeling. to get there, you only need to close your eyes and remember.
For You Ingredient Happy People
water (aqua), sodium laureth sulfate, polyethylene, cocamide mea, cocamidopropyl betaine, glycerin, glycol distearate, magnesium aluminum silicate, polysorbate 20, fragrance, tocopheryl acetate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, peg-7 glyceryl cocoate, tetrasodium edta, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, citric acid, fd&c blue no. 1
The End
If you've read my other reviews on Philosophy's products, you know that I usually find them to be average in use and expensive in price. With Heaven On Earth, I have yet to find an exfoliator that performs as well as this does. Even though the price may frighten you, I highly recommend that you take that leap of faith and purchase it. It will last for a good long time (as long as you don't use it every day), and you'll be extremely pleased with your results.
