razberryswirl's Full Review: Philosophy Hope In A Bottle
In the past few months, I have switched over pretty much all of my beauty products to that of Philosophy. I was greatly impressed with Hope in a Jar and Purity Made Simple - they have been a great cleanser/moisturizer team for my skin.
During that very special "time" of the month, I tend to break out. I felt like I needed a boost above Hope in a Jar and I discovered Hope in a Bottle. Those of you who use Hope in a Jar know how well it works and how simple it is in formula. This moisturizer is also very simple, but it contains a bit of salicylic acid to help combat acne and help skin remain smooth. After using so many products, I am a firm believer that even though I break out, that doesn't mean I use a salicylic acid formula every day; I use it only when I need it, and I've had great results with this new routine.
Using Hope in a Bottle
I use this product just like I use Hope in a Jar - I smooth it on after cleansing with Purity Made Simple. This of course, comes in a small 2oz bottle and is more of a liquid formula and doesn't have the "theraputic" smell that Hope in a Jar has.
When I feel I'm getting a pimple or two (usually around my chin area), I stop using Hope in a Jar and use Hope in a Bottle. A little of this goes a long way so the 2oz is a great size - no need for me to use this every single day, only a few days a week. Then, when my breakout is gone, I switch to the Jar again.
There is no magical cure for pimples because much of this has to do with hormones...but when I use this, I feel like my breakouts are in control. I have only one pimple at a time typically, instead of a whole breakout area as I used to...and the pimples don't last very long. This product is not harsh and I think this has a lot to do with it. It heals and smoothes skin at the same time. My old salicylic products were so harsh and they shocked my skin with acne med and made my skin very dry. Then, I'd have to use a heavy moisturizer just to get my skin back and that would make me break out again! Vicious cycle no more!
Pricing and Size
So far, I've only found the 2oz size at Sephora for around $40. I don't feel this product is meant to be used every single day, only during breakouts. If you have very acne prone skin, I suggest checking out Philosophy's On a Clear Day line of products, including On a Clear Day H2O2, a hydrogen peroxide cream that I use directly on breakout areas before bed. Helps dry out acne.
