| chelledun's Full Review: Philosophy Pink Frosted Layer Cake™ Shampoo, ... |
When I was a child, my wonderful mother and I spent many days, weeks, and months wading our way through the Little Golden Books library. We read these simple children's stories over and over, and I literally had many of them memorized before I could ever make any sense of the symbols on the pages. One of these books, a story about Eeyore and Winnie-the Pooh, was a particular favorite. The reason I loved it so much was simple - at the end of the story, the characters had a celebration (for Eeyore, perhaps?) that involved a giant pink frosted layer cake! I had never enjoyed such a treat, but my four-year-old imagination suspected it would be wonderful.
Fast forward twenty-two years, to my wonderful mother presenting me with a surprise pick-me-up gift of Philosophy Pink Frosted Layer Cake 3-in-1. A quick look and sniff at the product immediately sent me into a nostalgia-induced haze as I finally had the opportunity to enjoy pink frosted layer cake. I'm pleased to announce that it is just as magical as I thought it would be, and I'm ready to stockpile mass quantities this limited release product for a rainy day.
Product Information Pink Frosted Layer Cake is one of the newest of Philosopy's popular 3-in-1 scented products. I've owned more than a dozen of these body wash/bubble bath/shampoo combos over the years with my favorites being Senorita Margarita, Red Velvet Cake, and Crumb Berry Pie. Just like most other 3-in-1s, Pink Frost Layer Cake costs $16.00 for 16 ounces in a plastic flip-top bottle. Yes, that's a dollar an ounce. I personally think it's worth the price to start my day with something really yummy-smelling, but your mileage may vary.
My mom purchased my bottle of Pink Layer Cake 3-in-1 at a Sephora store. You can also buy this standard size online at Sephora.com or a slightly larger bottle at QVC.com (despite the fact that this product is being retailed as a "Sephora exclusive). My Experience Pink Frosted Layer Cake makes for about as decadent an experience as one can possibly expect at 6:00 a.m. on a work day. Everything about this product is fun, starting with the body wash's pepto-bismol pink color and the tasty-sounding frosting recipe printed on the package. The scent of Pink Frosted Layer Cake is equally fabulous. It does smell a great deal like frosting, with a dollop of cake batter thrown in. There's something amazingly festive and fresh-baked about the finished effect and I absolutely love it.
In terms of function, Pink Frosted Layer Cake performs as expected for a 3-in-1 in that it makes a wonderful body wash and a passable shampoo. It bubbles and foams nicely with the help of a poof, washcloth, or even my bare hands. I regularly use this product as a shaving cream with excellent results although it is not advertised this way. As far as the shampooing aspect goes, I really need a dedicated shampoo for my hair to look its best, but sometimes I use this for a quick evening wash when I'm not going to be doing any drying or curling. A little of this product can go a long way, but I tend to overindulge since I like the scent so much. At my current rate of usage, I anticipate that my bottle will be empty within six weeks of receiving it. Hey, at least it's a calorie-free overindulgence.
Overall . . . Philosophy's Pink-Frosted Layer Cake 3-in-1 is a rare treat. This scrumptious-scented body wash trips my nostalgia trigger and has me smiling in the shower on a daily basis. If you like foodie bath products or baked goods, get your hands on some of this decadent cake-in-a-bottle as soon as possible.
