Pros:Cleanses skin, One-step, No leave-on or wait time, affordable, okay for daily use.
Cons:Results comparable to a washcloth, watery/runny consistency, basically a facial cleanser. Cheaper brands/versions.
The Bottom Line: Not recommend this product if you are looking for the Microdelivery Peel (Philosophy) results or immediate, cumulative resurfacing results. Good for those looking for a gentle cleanser with minimal exfoliation.
I'm a fan and long-time user of Philosophy Purity Made Simple 3-in-1 facial cleanser. The same goes for the Two-Step Microdelivery Kit. So, was I thrilled when I saw the two had joined forces to create the, what seemed to be, PERFECT hybrid product called the Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash! Wow, I didn't even write the company to request it, yet they were able to stay on top of my demand. Ah, the powers I must possess. Ring me up. Or, actually, in reality it was: add to cart and check out! Only $25 bucks, too, that's only $5 more than the same size bottle of plain ol' Purity Made Simple.

My order arrived and I was anxious to put this new time, money, space-saving product to good use. The directions on the bottle state I am to moisten my face and apply the product, massaging for 30-60 seconds. Easy as 1-2-3!
THE EXPERIENCE: After becoming an expert at using the Microdelivery Peel kit AND Purity Made Simple, I expected the product to be gentle, but more substantial in consistency than Purity Made Simple. But also thinner in consistency than the Microdelivery Kit exfoliating step (jar two, for those who have used this product). So I squeezed a bit into the palm of my hand. Well, it turned out it was QUITE a bit, rather. The product came out much more liquid-y and runny than anticipated. It actually very much resembles Purity Made Simple. The difference? Some familiar little granuals, a la the original Microdelivery Peel. Another borrowed familiarity? The scent. It's not unpleasant, but it is reminiscent of play-doh.
The rather slimy potion slid around a tad too "out of my control" and I struggled to direct the little exfoliating beads to stay together so I didn't end up with one per square inch on my face, doing less good than a washcloth. To no avail. My efforts were trumped but I refused to go down without giving it my all. This was my first attempt, after all, and I've come to trust Philosophy skin care products.
As I refused to acknowledge the above struggle, I continued to use my finger tips to massage my face for the entire recommended 30 seconds before rinsing.
THE RINSE: This in itself was a disappointment. I generally would include the rinsing step in the overall experience, but in this case it deserves its own review. After a typical Microdelievery (kit) session I usually rinse my face and my hands never fail to surprise me with how slick and smooth my face feels as I rinse the exfoliating grains off with water. Unfortunately the reveal after this product was a 180º difference. The familiar glow was not revealed. The smooth as a baby's bum texture, also absent. Bummer.
GLASS HALF FULL: On a positive note, my face was indeed clean as when I use Purity Made Simple. All of my makeup was removed and I have to assume the exfoliating grit did some dead skin removal, apparent or not. It was one step and there is no required or recommended "leave-on" time, so it's quick and easy as a typical face cleanser. It reminded me a lot of Oil of Olay's Regenerist Thermal Mini Peel minus the "thermal". And I liked that Olay product a lot.
COMPARISONS: The Oil of Olay Thermal Mini Peel gives you two more ounces for about $8-10.00 less (that's 6 oz. for $17), with the satisfaction of "feeling it work", if you're in to that. And I am. It also seems to produce a more noticeable rejuvenating glow. But the best of the best out of the three mentioned products is still the original Microdelievery Peel Kit by Philosophy ($65 per kit). Sure, it's two steps, but you can do it just once a week for great, undeniable results (hint: compliments from friends and occasionally even strangers!). The kit also has the added benefit of Vitamin C , lactic/salicylic acid which NO Olay product offers (even the comparable two-step Regenerist Microdermabrasion & Peel System, which LOOKS like the same product as Philosophy's).
CONCLUSION: Overall, the Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash by Philosophy fell short to my expectations. The fact that I can get a superior and comparable, yet cheaper product at my local grocery store or on-line for less (Olay's Thermal Mini Peel) makes it a ho-humbummer. On top of that, the Microdelivery Peel Kit results produce dramatic positive results and only needs to be done on special occasions or once per week. So, I'm sticking to the kit! Sure it's more of a financial investment at over twice the cost of the 8 oz. Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash, but it ends up lasting twice as long, so it evens out on cost per treatment. The results are cumulative, longer lasting as well. Plus, my skin works well with the Vitamin C/Peptides and Lactic/Salicylic acid. I'm glad I gave the new Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash a try, but it won't be a new addition to my skin care regimine.
