| lkvanvoorhis's Full Review: Philosophy Amazing Grace Olive Oil Body Scrub |
You could say that I came upon philosophy products quite by accident. I recently placed an order with drugstore.com, and had a problem with the shipment. The products I received were damaged pretty badly, so I was given a store credit to use on any products in their store. So, I visited them again and went through the arduous task of trying to decide what to buy. I'm a sucker for beauty and skin care products, so it took some time.
Fortunately, I noticed that the philosophy section had a special. If I would buy one of their body care products, I would receive a 4 ounce philosophy real purity facial cleanser free. I'm always looking to try new products, especially since I'm seeing age creep up on me. So, I decided to find something in the philosophy line to buy just to get the free cleanser.
Oh, but so many products to choose from - with such great names, too. Hope in a jar, the great mystery, the greatest love, heaven on earth...it was fun looking through all the philosophy products. After assessing my current needs and my current supply of products, I decided I needed to buy philosophy's amazing grace perfumed olive oil body scrub.
If you think I don't know how to use capital letters, just know it's not me - it's the philosophy products themselves. They do not seem to use capital letters on any product that I can see. They also have some creative and thoughtful phrases on each of their products, going along well with the product names. What does the amazing grace product say on the bottle?
philosophy: amazing grace is the person who lives in a state of live, forgiveness, and total compassion. it is the person who is not afraid to be wrong and doesn't need to be right. it is the humble spirit who lets others shine and helps those who cannot find their light. it is the person who prays for others and not oneself. it is the person who has let theirself out and the spirit in.---Yes, they used the word "theirself." This verbiage (philosophy says the verbiage on each product represents their ideals) is on the front of the bottle with ingredients and instructions for use on the back.
amazing grace comes in a clear almost white plastic 8 fl. oz. bottle with a black flip top cap. (A larger 16 oz. version is also available for $26 on the philosophy website.) Of the generic style packaging, philosophy says "Our black and white packaging honors the duality of our spirit. Our colored packaging is a reminder that we are all people of color and we must be valued, not tolerated."
What about the product itself? amazing grace is a clear, creamy, and kind of thick liquid (I stop short at saying that it is a gel or cream, it's a bit watery to be called that) that contains small granules for exfoliation. The exfoliants work very well on my rough and dry skin, and has made my skin feel softer. The instructions say to apply a small amount to dry or wet skin (I use it in the shower) and massage your entire body for at least a minute. I don't always have time to do that, but my results are great either way. My favorite aspect of this product is its heavenly scent. It is a light floral scent that seems to relax and calm me and helps me start the day off right. Best of all, the scent stays with you - not overpowering, but just enough to make your skin feel soft and emanate the floral scent just a bit. amazing grace is a real treat to use!
The ingredients of this product are:
Water (aqua), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Propylene Glycol, SD Alcohol 40 - B, Polyethylene, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, PPG-2 Hydroxyethyl Cocamide, Olea Europaea Fruit Oil (olive), Acrylates/C10/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Diatomaceous Earth, Fragrance, Triethanolamine, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Sea Salt
I don't know what all of these ingredients are, but the olive oil is supposed to help replenish lost moisture, and I would imagine the sea salt is a helpful exfoliator. At any rate, amazing grace is a body scrub that I am very satisfied with - I think you'll like it, too! philosophy's amazing grace line has additional products such as shampoo, shower gel, fragrance, and firming emulsion. Check out their website at www.philosophy.com.
