Pros:It cleans. Feels nicer than a bar of deodorant soap.
Cons:Smell isn't great. Not moisturizing enough. Too expensive.
The Bottom Line: If you are a big fan of Amazing Grace then this might be for you. Otherwise, a waste of money for 16-ounce bottle. Trial size a better choice.
In a word: LACKLUSTER

I received a four-ounce bottle of Philosophys Amazing Grace perfumed shampoo, bath, and shower gel in a nice gift package. The boxed set included small sized containers of Amazing Grace shower gel, Purity facial cleaner, When Hope Is Not Enough SPF, Microdelivery peel pads, Amazing Grace Body Firming Emulsion and When Hope Is Not Enough facial firming serum. I didnt hold on to the box so I dont have the name of this particular collection. I know it was from QVC, but is currently unavailable.
Thats how I acquired it, heres what I thought of it:
You know how when you hear a lot of buzz about a movie, your curiosity and expectations rise but then you go to see it and are let down? Well, thats the same feeling I had with Philosophys Amazing Grace Shampoo, Bath and Shower Gel. Its like witnessing the industries excitement over an Oscar winning film that falls flat in the eyes of the general public. (It actually did win Best of Sephora 2006.)
I had heard a lot of positive feedback about Amazing Grace: testimonials on QVC, glowing reviews on epinions.com and other sites, and a thumb up from my mother in law. She is highly sensitive about fragrances. So, I figured if she is satisfied with the stuff than there must be something really to it.
Well, as with a few other things, my mother in law and I dont agree. (Truthfully, we have a fantastic relationship but I have embellished our differences here for dramatic effect.) Anyway, this Amazing Grace shower gel is not for me. The product simply didnt live up to the hype. Even when you try to dull the previously heard hum of anticipation, it just doesnt deliver enough bangs for the bucks. Let me list the reasons why:
SCENT: Its not great. I think it has a tad bit too much perfume. It is feminine in an old way. I think my grandmother would have liked its classical bouquet but she also liked Jean Nate. I find it funny how Philosophy never truly describes their scent. They simply state on the bottle: unique, long-lasting fragrance. Ok, well go with that. Its different and it hangs around a little too long.
MOISTURIZING: Average, maybe. Again, their bottle reads, milk based for long lasting conditioning and a silky feel. Are they using skim milk? Its definitely short on conditioning time and feels more like rayon than silk. Its smooth just not that smooth.
CLEANING: Sure, it washes dirt off. However, as for its silk proteins and special vitamins for soften skin and hair plus enhanced hair strength and moisture, no way. My hair is dried out and seems weaken by using this. Hair conditioner is an absolute must. Honestly, I dont use it nor would I recommend anyone to use it as a shampoo. As a shower gel, its fine. It wont noticeably soften your skin but it will get it clean.
Now before anyone assumes Im totally tanking this product, let me just reiterate that it is okay as a bath and shower gel. Its just not dynamic. IA nickel sized glob creates an ordinary amount of lather but nothing as stupendous as some others in the Philosophy bathing line do. The gel resembles a creamy lotion. It is neither thick nor runny. The bottle instructs you to first dampen your hair or body and then slowly massage the gel into your hair or skin. Frankly, massaging isnt why Im in the shower. I want to slather my body with a pouf full of delightful smelling bubbles and slide the dirt and stress away.
Never the less, I still use Philosophys Amazing Grace shower gel when I dont want to dry out my skin even more with regular ole deodorant soap or when I want a break from my various flavors of 3-in-1s. Partly, the frugal side of me keeps me using it instead of simply throwing it away. That and I really wanted to love it.(And I'm wise to make my mother in law happy.) But, just like the blockbuster films, not everyone is impressed.
We all have different tastes. As I say with a movie that Im not thrilled about, You are better off waiting to rent the DVD. Same principal here; at a hefty price of $22.00 a 16-ounce bottle, a smarter bet would be a trial size or gift.
