| alisonlk's Full Review: Phisoderm Acne |
When I still lived with my parents, I would often yell down to mom with the typical, "I ran out of face wash!!!" That was her clue to pick some up the next time she went out. Mom liked to experiment, picking up a different face wash almost every time (even though it was usually whatever she had a coupon for!). A couple of the times, she picked up pHisoderm 4-way daily acne cleanser.
I found pHisoderm to be halfway effective until I read the label. It said (and I quote), "DIRECTIONS for Twice a Day Use: Clean face and affected body area thoroughly before use..." Amazing! So this stuff wasn't completely a cleanser--it required me to wash with something else beforehand. I was wondering about this, so I went researching. I found that yes, pHisoderm does clean dirt/oil, but it focuses inside the pores. So that's why I had to wash with something else first! I don't mind washing with something else first (I prefer Noxzema), I figure that as long as it works, an extra step here and there isn't a bad deal.
Did it work? Yes! I made a regular regimen of washing my face, first with Noxzema and then with pHisoderm in the morning and before bedtime. After first cleansing my face, I put a very, very small amount of pHisoderm in the palm of my hand. When I say small, I mean small. The drop should be around the diameter of a nickel--anything more is a waste, anything less won't lather well. Add water, form a nice, rich lather (easily made seeing that this stuff is the consistency of Dawn dishwashing detergent), and massage for a short while over your still-damp face. You should notice by now that the smell is rather pleasant--I consider this the Herbal Essences of face wash, although I have yet to send my commercial idea to Chattem, the company that manufactures pHisoderm. I don't think the commercial for pHisoderm would work quite as well as Herbal Essences...
Leave the lather on for about a minute or two. The way that I tell when it's time to rinse is when most of the bubbles from the lather are gone and you can hardly see the wash on your face. Rinse. Pat dry. Yes, pat dry. Don't rub, just gently pat. If you rub, it won't work! (Are you starting to see why it's necessary to read instructions on these things???)
It took me a couple of days to see a lightening of any blemishes on my face. Within a week, most were gone. Continuing the washing regimen, I found that there was little drying, instead my skin felt refreshed and firm. Not at all tight. It helped to keep some of the shine away, as well.
SO, let's look at the claims:
Treats active acne blemishes
Yeah, I can agree with them.
Cleans dirt and oil and eliminates most blackheads
When used as directed, skin gets clean and remains clean. In terms of the blackheads, it took longer for any large blackheads to go away, but the smaller ones were gone rather quickly (give 'em a couple of days of regular use).
Nurtures skin gently
Well, it nurtured my skin gently, but I have combination skin. Therefore, be cautioned if your skin is sensitive. If you experience any drying, try using some oil-free facial moisturizer.
Helps prevent new acne from forming
Yes, as long as you follow the directions, you'll see amazing results!
I bought a 14 oz. bottle for under $8 around 4 months ago. I still have half of the bottle left, and I have been using it regularly ever since I purchased it. It may seem expensive, but consider how long it lasts!
If it wasn't for the annoying waiting time for it to kick in, I would give it 5 stars. I totally understand that the medicine needs to get into the skin, but still, I'm an impatient person, and this is my review! So 4 stars for pHisoderm it is! Give it your time and it'll give you results.
