Pros: Organic, Paraben Free, price, blends well, sheer coverage, smooth finish
Cons: Very shiny finish, strong smell during application
I've been gradually trying to add more organic skin care and makeup products to my collection and I thought several of the Physicians Formula Organic Wear products looked worth a try. The Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Tinted Moisturizer was the first product in the line I tried.
This tinted moisturizer is available in 4 shades: Ivory to Fair, Fair to Light, Light to Natural, and Natural to Tan. I have fair skin with green eyes and dark brown hair. I have both yellow and pink undertones so basically pretty neutral. I purchased the Ivory to Fair which is the lightest shade.
A 1.5 fl oz tube of the Organic Wear Tinted Moisturizer retails for $11.95, which is a real bargain compared to what I typically pay for similar products. I actually saved 20% on mine by purchasing it through drugstore.com during a sale making it even more of a steal. The product comes in a lightweight, thin plastic squeeze tube with a tan and green label covering most of the tube and a plastic twist off cap that is green with a sort of wood grain look to it.
Physicians Formula writes on their website that this, "Lightweight tinted moisturizer hydrates skin and evens out skin tone with sheer and natural coverage." They also add that it is, "A 100% natural origin tinted moisturizer, formulated with 80% certified organic ingredients, including jojoba seed oil, sunflower seed oil, avocado oil, and shea butter to moisturize the skin." The product has an SPF of 15 and is, "100% Free of Harsh Chemicals. 100% Free of Synthetic Preservatives. 100% Free of Parabens. 100% Free of GMO's. 100% Free of Synthetic Colors. 100% Free of Synthetic Fragrances. 100% Cruelty Free."
The directions on the tube state to shake well before use and since the product is quite thin I do always shake it very well before use since in my experience thinner consistency products like this can easily separate. As I mentioned, the product is quite thin but is easy to dispense from the squeeze tube without it being messy. There is a distinct, strong smell during application that reminds me of a medicinal herb like camphor or something like that. I don't mind the smell but it is definitely noticeable during application. Once applied I felt that the scent completely vanished and I noticed no further scent or smell of any kind during wear.
The tinted moisturizer is very lightweight yet still creamy enough to easily blend and meld with my skin. I apply it over cleansed and moisturized skin and find that it takes no effort to blend it in seamlessly without any streaking by just using my fingers. The ivory to fair shade seems to be a great match for my fair, neutral skin tone, however the coverage is so sheer I'm sure that it wouldn't be hard to find a good match. The coverage, as I mentioned, is quite sheer and I find that it is just enough to even out my complexion but it wouldn't cover any real problem areas or discolorations. Luckily I have a great complexion so sheer coverage is all I was looking for.
The one area where this product is a bit of a miss for me, is the finish. I find that the finish on my skin is very shiny. It doesn't appear to have shimmer or sparkle in it at all, just shine. It doesn't look or feel greasy or oily either, and once set it feels smooth and clean on my skin. It just has a shiny look that is a step or two shinier than what I typically consider a dewy or radiant finish. The finish is similar to what I get with some of my products that are labeled as brightening foundation primers. I feel that the finish is just a bit too shiny for me to wear it alone, but I love all the other aspects of the product. So I just decided to go with it and use it as a tinted, brightening primer. I use it on days when I plan on just wearing a powder and concealer and it works great. It provides a smooth, more even base on which to apply a powder and I absolutely love it for this purpose. In fact, I purchased this product along with the Physicians Formula Organic Wear Loose Powder Foundation and I find the 2 products are actually a match made in heaven and work wonderfully together. So all in all I really have ended up enjoying the Physicians Formula Organic Wear Tinted Moisturizer but I have had to slightly repurpose it as an organic tinted brightening primer.
