Only Works when used with Shampoo
Written: May 08 '02
Pros:Keeps curls defined and soft, smells great, pH balance, safe for colour-treated and permed hair.
Cons:You have to use the Physique Spiral Shampoo for it to be effective, expensive.
The Bottom Line: It leaves your curls very defined when it is used with the Physique Spiral Shampoo, but when used alone it only does the basic conditioning and leaves hair soft.
After hearing and reading all about the Physique Spiral line, I decided that it was time to try it, so I started telling my dad about it. One day he came home with the Physique Spiral Shampoo, which also came with 100mL of Physique Spiral Conditioner, and 20g of Physique Spiral Cream.
Packaging and Price
For between 8 and 11 dollars you will get a 200mL tube of Physique Spiral Conditioner. A little bit over the top in my opinion, but as long as my parents are paying for it (I’m only a teenager you know) and it makes my curly hair behave, I’m happy.
The container is an upside-down silver tube with a little black spiral with a little black line on either side to show you that it is from the curl defining series. Below that is the Physique signature sideways blue M. underneath that it says physique in big black letters, and spiral conditioner in a smaller print, overtop of a green line.
Directions
After shampooing your hair with Physique Spiral Shampoo squeeze a small amount into your palm and distribute though hair. Next take a wide toothed comb through your hair to get out all of the knots and rinse thoroughly. Next scrunch your hair with a towel to remove the extra water. Next evenly apply preferred styling product, scrunch and let air-dry.
Product
When you open the bottle the first thing that hits you is the scent. I already explained it in my review on the shampoo, but basically it is watermelon, kiwi, ozone and Easter lily.
The conditioner itself is a very rich white cream that easily is distributed though your hair.
But Did It Work?
Now lets look at the claims to see how this conditioner fared.
-Helps tame frizz and improve manageability while maintaining aligned air space along hair strands, so you can define the curly style you want.
Looking at this claim, a few of you are probably a little bit confused, so allow me to explain. The Physique Spiral Shampoo claims that it “helps align irregular air spaces along hair strands”. The first time that I used it, I was amazed with just how defined and shiny my naturally curly hair was!
But to make sure that this claim was being answered, I tried the physique shampoo with another conditioner, and my curls were not nearly as defined as they were before. But notice how it says ‘maintain’. In other words the Physique Spiral Conditioner is not going to work without the shampoo.
-Also recommended for colour-treated or permed hair.
This claim is not one that affects me since I do not perm or dye my hair.
-pH balanced
Since it did not dry out or irritate my skin in any way, I guess this is meeting the claim too.
Overall Recommendation
If you have naturally curly or wavy hair that doesn't like to behave and you don't mind spending some extra money on hair care products, buy the spiral shampoo and conditioner- they will work wonders. However if you use it without the Physique Spiral Shampoo, your hair will be very soft and tangle free, but don’t expect perfectly defined ringlets.
