bekkabunny's Full Review: Milton Bradley Pictionary Junior
Before I played Pictionary, I played Pictionary, Junior. I always loved to draw and play charades, so my parents bought me Pictionary, Junior, which is a combination of the both. My parents used to always play the game with my brother and I and they used to always let us win. Last week, we were over my twin cousins’ house for their 7th birthday party. One of the gifts that they received was Pictionary, Junior. I was so excited…I volunteered to play with them first!
The object of the game is to make it from start to finish, a basic quality in almost every game. So, included with the game is a game board, Pictionary, Junior cards (200 cards = 1000 words), two game pieces, a die, and an hourglass. On the board, there are a bunch of connected squares that are all different colors. You need two teams to play. (It’s good to pair up a big kid or adult and a younger child). You roll the die to see who goes first, and you’re ready to play!
Once it is your turn, you roll the die and land on a colored square. You pick up a card and look at the color of the square you land on. You have to draw the object that is highlighted with the same color on the card. For example, a card may read:
PLACES
School – Blue
Farm – Purple
Classroom – Yellow
Restaurant – Green
White House – Pink
So if you landed on a purple square, you would have to draw a farm. Now, you flip over the timer and you have exactly 1 minute to draw you object and help your teammates guess it. But be careful, you can’t use any letters, numbers, or words!
Some of the squares are designated as “all play” squares, where both teams draw and whoever guesses the picture first gets to roll the die and move on. If your team can’t guess a picture in time, then you must stay on that square and keep picking cards and drawing whichever “color” you are stuck on. Once your team guesses the picture, you can them move on at your next turn.
The board has 40 squares on it, so whoever makes it to the last square first wins!
This game is so great because it is quick and fun. It doesn’t take a really long time to play the game because the objects are relatively easy to draw. This is good because many times, children don’t want to finish a game if it is going to take a long time. They can only have so much fun doing one thing and then they want to move onto the next. It’s so much fun because kids LOVE to draw and color! It’s also great because they get a chance to use their imagination to help them guess what the words are.
Pictionary, Junior is great to play at Birthday parties, family nights, or just for fun! On the box, it says this game is for children ages 8-14, but I know I had a great time playing it with my cousins!
