Pros: Cute colors, holds a lot of money.
Cons: Grey Tab on Bottom may break off with lots of use.
The younger, the better, kids should learn about the value of a dollar and what it means to save their money. For the younger toddler age to the lower grades of school age, the easiest way to learn to teach a child is with something they can relate to.
The Little Tikes Piggy Bank has the look more of a toy, than bank, which is the right idea for the little ones to receive. Saving should be made into a game so that it encourages your little one to save more.
The Little Tikes Piggy Bank can be purchased in baby pink or blue, the pink piggy bank has a blue tail, and the blue piggy bank and a pink tail. Both have black small eyes, large gray snouts, and gray padded feet.
The slot to put the dollar or coins in, is located on top, and is wide and long just enough for the larger coins, but small enough to prevent little fingers from getting stuck in the slot.
To get the child's money out, there is a gray square compartment located under the belly of the piggy. It snaps open and shut, and stays secure, so that when transporting the piggy bank, the tab won't come undone and spill out the money. Now if the bank is shook or played with roughly, the tab WILL unloosen so watch who plays or uses it.
We have found that the gray tab that you open and close to retain the money, if used A LOT, it starts to wear the crease that opens and closes it, and eventually broke and fell off- leaving us to have to tape up the hole and leaving no way of repairing it. This will break off much sooner if you allow your child to play with it often, so again, it is a good idea to let your child use it when depositing money, but then keep it in your care after that.
My daughter thought she would spruce her pink piggy bank up and decided to draw him a purple crayon mustache, red crayon blush, and lots of multi-colored polka dots. Of course, I smiled when I saw it, and then after she went to bed, I attempted to scrub it off with Goo-B-Gone, which is a cleaner for crayon and other hard stains. It worked, and the piggy bank cleaned up fine- looking good as new! So if you come across one at a Rummage Sale, and it is marked up, feel confident in knowing that you CAN clean it up to look as good as new!
The Little Tikes Piggy Bank has plenty of room in it, and again, is a great way to teach your child how to save money. We now let our daughter save her money in the piggy bank, and when it is full, we have her deposit the money into her Cubby Account at our local Credit Union so it can gain some interest- plus makes her feel very grown up to have her own bank book!
The Bank costs around $12.99 and can be found at Toys R Us, or their website as well.
I highly recommend the Little Tikes Piggy Bank for any child of young age- you are never to young to save!
