tinasamuels's Full Review: Mari Winsor and Mark Laska - Pilates Powerhouse
THE PILATES POWERHOUSE by Mari Winsor was bought out of laziness. I didn't want to work out in a gym, or spend hours doing laps in the pool. The cover proclaimed Strength, Flexibility, and Shape in less than an hour a day. I was hooked.
Broken down into three sections, The Power of Pilates, Doing It, and Injuries and Injury Prevention, they cover all the bases. A combination of yoga and karate, Pilates helps you tone and tighten muscles without causing stress injuries. You need no special equipment, just a mat on the floor.
I will describe my favorite from the book to give the reader a taste of what its like. "Leg Beats" where you take both legs in an angled position and "glue" your legs together, you lift both of them up 8-10 inches and you release the bottom leg down and bring it up to meet the top leg. You need to do this vigorously and repeat it 10 times without ever letting the bottom leg rest. Doesn't sound like much but try it. After awhile you will feel a burn if you are putting your legs up high enough.
Celebrities are swearing by this "new" way to workout. Also its a different twist, yoga and other stretching and meditation exercises have been around for a long time.
Don't do this if you are wanting massive weight loss overnight, as its not made for that. But if you want to devote a little time to improve your circulation, your mind, and your stress level, this is the way to go.
