I'm 45 and have played golf since I was 10. I play from the blue tees and can reach all the holes in regulation with no problem. However, I rarely hit the green close to the hole and wanted to try some "top-of-the-line" clubs before I get to old to see if I can get closer to the hole (and closer to being a scratch golfer - the short game is where I need help the most!). I told the salesman to give me the best irons regardless of $. They suggested the Ping G2 as "state-of-the-art". So I went out on their range and tried them - wow! they went straight even when I miss-hit them and seemed to go a little farther than my old irons (17 year old Dunlop 357s).
I decided to get a set, PW - 2, and they examined my swing and sent me the green dot version. To date, I haven't gotten used to them - I tend to pull them a lot to the left which I think may be because they are a little longer than my 357s. When I do hit them straight, I seem to have gained 5 to 10 yards extra distance. One notable quirk is that when on level ground, the toe of the club is up off the ground a little bit at set-up. The salesman said this is normal because at contact the club will actually bow-out and sweep the ground level. This has taken some getting used to, but I'm slowly making progress.
Anyway, I think they are very high quality clubs and if I don't improve its me - not the clubs!
