| garbedian's Full Review: Ping TiSI Driver |
First things first, what the world probably doesn't need right now is another 45-inch, titanium headed driver with a suggested retail price over $500.
With that said however, the new PING Ti Tec driver is an incredible piece of equipment that is sure to help your game.
When PING introduced the original Ti driver some years back it was considered, in terms of head size, "huge". Now at 323cc the head size is generally accepted as pretty much the standard size that combines optimum performance and forgiveness.
The new Ti Tec uses the same successful head size and design (finished in an exceptional slate gray color) to give the user a feeling of familiarity. However, after that is when things get really interesting.
First PING uses a patented process called Chemical Milling Technology (CMT) that removes the brittle alpha layer of the titanium casting thereby precisely controlling wall thickness during manufacturing. The CMT process allows PING to reposition the saved mass in the heel and toe on the sole plate of the head. This optimizes spin and lift characteristics as well as moves the center of gravity lower and more towards the face of the driver improving trajectory and enhancing distance.
I know it sounds like a lot, but simply put, the head weight is redistributed to produce longer drives with better flight and less dispersion. The total package.
PING has also introduced the buying public something called Effective Trajectory (ET). ET represents the driver's effective loft at impact and the Ti Tec comes in ET's of 5.5, 7, 8.5, 10 and 11.5 degrees.
The new PING Ti Tec remains at a standard 45 inches long with the Aldila 350 graphite shaft available in Ladies, Senior, Regular, Stiff and X-stiff flexes.
There are eight (8) PING hosel lie codes and of course the PING WRX options to ensure that you receive the big stick of your dreams.
The Ti Tec retails for $550 and should be in your favorite golf establishment by mid-November.
