fifthblood's Full Review: Pioneer TS-D690R Coaxial Car Speaker
I purchased these along with a pair of Infinity Kappa 42.5i's, both running from my Pioneer DEH-P650 (un-amped). The sound is incredible, no doubt about it. Articulate and strong, these speakers belt it out to reasonable volumes (pushing the extremes of reasonable volumes...). At very high levels (painfully high), they do distort some, but mainly from bass, which is expected when running off of head-unit power only. The problem I did encounter was that they are a little too large to be top-mounted in my '89 Grand Marquis, and the pre-drilled holes only matched 2 at a time. I did manage to secure them with a pair of bolts, washers, and nuts, but it was a rather painstaking job to do single-handedly. I recommend having a friend give you a hand if you're in a situation like my own for the sake of not damaging the speaker. It's construction is very durable, and the Aramid-fiber woofer is strong. Personally, I don't find this to be the most effective woofer, though, as it is slightly more pliable than polymers and can have a tendency to make bass "looser" (as opposed to crisp/precise) than intended when loud; however, this is only my opinion. At the present, I have a 50-hrz high-pass filter on them (it's a feature of the head unit), and they sound great. They hit hard and loud, and--or the price--few contenders can stand to the challenge.
