| andytyper's Full Review: Pioneer DEH-P4800MP Car CD/ MP3 Player |
I had this Pioneer installed in my Civic just last week to replace my malfunctioned high K*wood with D-Mask feature that I bought in 2002. My K*wood's mechanical parts that flip open and close the face had broken 5 times since I've owned it. Thanks to the outside company insurance I purchased separately, I was able to have it repaired free of charge. However, when it for the last time, the insurance no longer covered it since the cost of repair was more than the coverage. So they gave me a store credit. I went back to the store to look for a comparable replacement. My store credit was $248.00. My K*wood cost me $287.00. My dilemma was that I had to factor in the install fee and extended warranty with the amount of credit I was given.
After a few comparisons, I hesitantly settled for this Pioneer model for the price of $159.00 just for the unit. It didn't look anything much like my K*wood. The store was great with their service as they were able to install it 30 min. after I finished the transaction. AS soon as I started fiddling with the radio, I was in awe at how much clearer, crispier and richer the sound of my speakers are compared to the so and so sound my K*wood made. It was like having my entire system replaced. I was able to adjust most of the settings within an hour of studying the manual. It was easy to follow and adjust the simple settings and the buttons are very user friendly. I still have to test the CD player while on the road but I'll take the word of other reviewers that it never skips (unlike my K*wood).
I enjoy this new radio so much that I actually spend some time in my garage just to listen to it. It gave new life to all my speakers and Bazooka Base Tube. I felt completely surrounded with music unlike that poorly built K*wood that always sounded like there was an air or sound leak somewhere in the car.
There is an error in the manual on how to adjust the clock. I was able to figure it out, though. If I remember accurately, to adjust the clock, with the radio off, press and hold the clock button, then press and hold the rotary knob until Initial shows on the display. Use the Selector button to adjust the hour and minutes.
