| temple8856's Full Review: Pioneer DV-440 DVD Player |
As an owner of a very large amount of DVD players, TVs and other entertainment electronics, I can firmly say that this is a good starter DVD player. Although I wouldn't recommend it to those, who have a very profound taste for quality. What I like most about it is that it plays MP3s, CD-RWs, and regular CDs along with DVDs. I have to warn you, however, that depending on the way you record the MP3s you get a different effect. Sometimes, you run into problems where the player partitions one track into ten or twenty little tracks, 20 seconds each. To avoid this, record all your MP3s at the same time on one disk, do not wait a while between recording times. But, if all you want is to listen to MP3s, don't even bother buying this one, go to your local Best Buy or whatever and get the APEX DVD players. I trust Pioneer, but it is not a brand that's built to last, so if you want something nice and durable, buy a Sony or a Panasonic for a cheaper price. I think this one compares nicely to a Pansonic RV-31, which costs about the same, but has much better quality. What really ticks me off though is the fact that this particular player does not have capability for good sound/speaker connections. If you really want to enjoy this to the fullest extent, you're gonna have to buy a receiver, and we all know those get pretty expensive. Overall, though it is a pretty cryptic piece of junk. Here's the reasons why: it doesn't have a lighted remote and its menus are too darn complex. You can't play around with those too much, considering the fact that the manual might as well be written in Japanese, you can't understand it. Depending on the TV you have, you won't have to use some of the features, such as the 3:4 and the 9:16 options. Because of its price, however, I am forced to day that it is a good deal and so far has not given me any grief. The design is nice, sleek, and will fit about anywhere. You can't go wrong with one of these.
