| knowledgex's Full Review: Pioneer VSX-D711 5.1 Channels Receiver |
Everyone can appreciate great sound. I had been surviving with a hand-me-down receiver that was older then I was, when I came to the realization that you can only fake surround sound for so long. Late one night I was browsing bestbuy.com and saw a lower end model Pioneer that sounded like a good deal. That night I went out to buy it and saw the 711 for a cheaper price, so me being cheap chanced it and I bought the D711 and was very impressed. It was very easy to setup, even though I had a little problem with no sound when I initially set it up because the tape monitor was on. After that (and feeling like a complete fool that I didn't notice it) I was up and running with surround sound in no time.
Even when I had to keep the volume down (my parents sleeping right above me) the midnight mode on the receiver allowed me to hear the dialog, as well as good bass at a level my folks couldn't hear. The remote which came with it actually was a great remote. I was planning on buying a new one before I used it, but it worked flawlessly with all my components, even the ones I thought no longer worked. Unfortunately I found no sleep button, eject button, and the remote doesn't glow in the dark. This was a bit of an aggravation which I quickly got over when you see how many
You can't really go wrong with 7 inputs on a receiver. It has 2 coaxial audio inputs and 1 digital audio input. Now for those of you who are unclear as to what these are, they are simply digital audio used by DVD players and high tech devices for surround sound or just a digital signal as opposed to analog. There are two component inputs, and if you are unclear as to what component is, its the highest quality video supported. You can find this on DVD players, TVs, and Digital Cable Boxes. You can identify component inputs by its blue, red, and green cords. There are 3 video inputs in the rear and one in the front, and there also is the same configuration for the S-Video inputs. As far as outputs go there is one component out, two s video out, two video out, and finally one digital audio out which can be used for Minidisc recorders and CD recorders.
The sound modes the receiver is compatible with is Dolby Digital, Dolby Surround, Pro Logic, Pro Logic II, and it also made a reference to some virtual surround sound but I'm not familiar with it.
Overall I'm happy with it, and so could anyone else with low to moderately high demands.
