Pros: Supports all the latest inputs/outputs and encodings. Learning Remote. Great Preamp. Midnight mode.
Cons: Remote would be better w/ backlighting.
The Bottom Line: Would buy it again. Great pre-amp section will not be outdated too soon.

| funkyblues's Full Review: Pioneer VSX-D811S 7.1 Channels Receiver |
Supports all the latest inputs/outputs and encodings.
NOTE:Make sure you go through the speaker configuration - it is set up for small speakers/subwoofer from the factory !
Price is worth it just for the preamp section - it has Component Video, SVideo and standard video, digital audio optical and RCA type. It also has preamp out for every channel in case you want to use it as a preamp and use a separate amp or amps.
All the latest Dolby Digital and Pro Logic. No THX but that's not a big loss for me.
Remote learns from your other remotes so you can access every feature - have not run out of memory yet like some other remotes. Wish it ahd backlighting !!!. I Like the midnight mode which compresses dynamic range. Makes the speech more discernable and the super loud stuff a little less loud for late night viewing (I actually use it most of the time)
Good granularity of control over volume, not so good over tone. I wish it displayed some of the settings on the TV like my old pioneer amp - some stuff is so small on the display you can't tell what's set from across the room.
May not be an auiophile amp but sounds fine to me and does everything I want at a reasonable price. For the $$$ you cant beat it - I love it & would buy it again. May buy another one for my den.
