I was given a headstand for Christmas last year. When I got it I put it away on the shelf in my closet. That is what I do with most of the guitar presents I receive for Christmas. The headstand will go next to my Bridge Pin Puller, and my String Winder. I started out not using one, and I feel perfectly comfortable resting the guitar on my lap. I have never dropped a guitar, so I will continue do it the same way.
What is a guitar headstand? The Planet Waves HDS Guitar Headstand Supporter for Stringing, supports the neck of the guitar. In all honesty, I thought I never needed to have one. I change my stings while holding my guitar on my lap. I had never used a headstand. My guitars all are very easy for me to change strings, without the Headstand. This product maybe good for a child to keep the guitar steady, when changing strings.
The Planet Waves HDS Guitar Headstand Supporter for Stringing, can be bought on line, for about $5.00, at Amazon. I have also seen them on E-bay for about $7.50. I show all my students how to change their own strings, and if they want to use a headstand that is fine. When I started the guitar in 1965, I don't think there were headstands.
Description
The headstand is 5 inches by 4 1/4 inch. The headstand is tripod shape, the three legs hold the guitar neck and keep it from moving around.
It folds up, and is compact, and can be stored easy in the guitar case in the event I need to use it.
The headstand is used for the guitar only. You should not use this for any other instruments, like Banjo or Mandolin. The headstand features a soft mat material that will not mark the guitar.
The headstand provides the guitar secure support and it gives the guitar a gentle place to lay, until I am done stringing the guitar. I have asked a few of my older kids the 13, 14, and 15 year olds, 2 of the three say they love using the headstand and it helps them. Everyone has their own opinion. It's too late for me I am one of those people if it works leave it alone. The one kid has a Taylor guitar and I'm sure he feels more secure using the Planet Waves HDS Guitar Headstand Supporter for Stringing. I can understand his feelings about the stand.
My thoughts on the Planet Wave HDS Guitar Headstand, If you feel you need a stand to give more support when changing strings buy one. I have used it so I could write this review. I feel it is a waste of money. I don't need mine. The headstand is great for keeping the guitar secure if I were doing finishing work on a guitar. The headstand is good for maintenance and adjustments. Thank you for reading my review.
