I have owned 3 different sets of Plantronics headsets over the years and recently as voice comm has grown in popularity for online games of course I also needed that added "edge" to enhance my online gaming experience - thus a headset with mic was needed.
I bought a set of Plantronics HS-1's about 4 years ago and broke enough pairs of them (abuse primarily) that I kept buying more of them. Well as is the case with every product newer ones come along to replace them, and these DSP-500's were Plantronics latest in a long line of successful headsets to come along.
I skeptically bought a set as they were marketed as the "CounterStrike Headset".
I was surprised at the ease of installation - I simply plugged them into the USB port on my rig and 30 seconds later I got the triumphant message in my systray telling me "your new hardware is ready to use"!
I tried them with music first and the sound quality was similar to my old HS-1's, good, not great. A bit bright on the treble side but other than that I liked them a bunch. Offered extra volume over the HS-1's too.
In game the mic worked much better than my old analog setup on the HS-1's! This is why I bought them, and they more than met the need I had.
Lastly I tried them with Dragon Naturally speaking and they played really well there too.
All in all these were worth the money invested! I recommend them to anyone, but to anyone who doesn't need a soundcard or has a laptop the USB solution is your answer too.
