OK. First we have to accept that we WANT to be using our mobile phone hands-free in the car and/or on the street. In either case we have to accept that people are going to look at us like we're a little crazy. After all, until a few years ago, people standing on street corners or sitting in their cars talking to themselves were considered a bit "off." If you can get past THAT, then this device is WONDERFUL.
The Plantronics M110 (and other versions with similar numbers) is designed to go over your head and features a padded speaker for one ear and a swivel-based microphone to go in front of your mouth. I'm one of those people who has trouble with the over-ear pieces, so this format is great. It doesn't interfere with my glasses, and I can even put it on OVER my had when I'm outside. Also, I have trouble moderating my voice when I'm not talking INTO something, so those types that have mikes on the cord don't work for me. With this device, I'm talking INTO something, and can also put my hand over it when I need to "mute" the conversation.
I LOVE using this in the car, and am getting used to using it in "outside" public settings like the sidewalk, or in line in the bank. Having the mouthpiece makes it easier for people to realize that I'm NOT talking to them or a total looney.
Anyway, I would recommend this device. Nobody I have ever spoken to has known that I was not talking directly into my phone (none of that "speakerphone" issue) except for one time when I was walking INTO a VERY strong wind.
This doesn't solve my DIALING problems, but not having to hold the phone in one hand while driving lets me be much safer and has probably saved me from a few accidents by now. Of course, if it promotes me using the phone MORE, then maybe it's NOT a good idea, but I'm not going to do the math on THAT.
The only way this device could be improved would be for it to be WIRELESS. Of course, then it would probably be using some weird kind of RF transmission that would fry my brain, so I guess I'll have to live with it the way it is.
