AtlantaGreg's Full Review: Plantronics Voyager 815 Bluetooth Headset
The Plantonics Voyager 815 is one of a newer generation of "ear bud" type bluetooth devices for your cell phone. At barely more than 2 inches long and extremely thin, it's smaller and lighter than many offerings.
FITTINGS:
Upon opening the blisterpack, charging is simple with the included charger. According to the book, you can start using it within one hour, though a full charge takes about 3 hours. Once fully charged, the device should offer up to 7 hours of talk time, and 20 hours of standby time.
While ear "hooks" are provided, in theory you shouldn't need them as one of three sized buds should keep the device plugged into your ear. Well, in theory. Three of us tried all three sizes, and on two of those who tried it, the Voyager kept popping out of their ears when they made certain movements. It stayed in my ear, but did not feel securely in place, so I had to use one of the ear hooks as well to feel like I wouldn't lose it by it popping out.
CLICKINGS FOR CALLS:
My Samsung A990 cell phone easily found the device, and within seconds the two devices were paired up. I received a call. The Voyager 815 is supposed to "ring" as well as my phone, but all I could hear were a few clicking type noises in my ear. To answer your call, you reach up and slide the side of the Voyager down (slide up to hang up), but since there are no grooves or bumps imprinted on the plastic, it's a slick surface and hard to slide without pulling the device out of your ear.
I CAN'T HEAR YOUUUUUUUUUU:
Once I answered the call, I could only just barely hear the person on the other end. I adjusted the very tiny volume button as high as it would go, and in a completely quiet room could barely make out what they were saying. There is no way in a loud car or busy room that I would be able to hear the person on the other end. They did however, say they could hear me fine. I adjusted the volume up, down, and even charged the Voyager longer just in case it was a low batter issue, but to no avail. You simply cannot hear worth a dang on this thing.
CONCLUSION:
While the price is right (only $49 U.S. at Sam's Club), and the weight is nice and light, I can't recommend the Voyager 815. Poor design makes for some frustrating device operation as well as nearly inaudible calls.
