| xyzwyatt's Full Review: Playhut Care Bears Canopy Bed |
My youngest absolutely loves the Care Bears so we got her this Playhut tent for her at KB Toys for around $15. We got it primarily because it was small and because it had Care Bears on it. Luckily we didnt get it for sleeping because at age 2 she is already too tall to sleep in. Either they totally skipped the test market for this or are spinning out tents on name recognition alone.
The tent measures 30 inches by 30 inches by 34.5 inches. The tent is very appealing to look at. The backing is Care Bear blue with yellow trim. There are Care Bears floating on clouds on the back which can be seen from the inside. There are white mesh curtains on the side with tie backs but the tie backs and the front is wide open. The ceiling is covered with yellow and there is a matching yellow floor insert that is included that does not attach to the tent. The tent folds up with the Playhut EZ fold technology and fits into the attached yellow carrying bag.
The material is different than other Playhut tents, its not vinyl. Its very soft and has tiny holes in it which makes it more suitable for sleeping in (if it were big enough). The tent is flame retardant though I don't think any sleeping will be done in it.
You can see through this tent on 3 of the 4 sides which I do like that because I can keep an eye on what my daughter is doing inside. There isnt much room inside so sitting is about the only thing that can be done in there. The girls use this on a daily basis with their pretend play. Actually what they usually do with it is turn it upside down and sit in it and pretend that they were in a car or boat.
The doors and windows are cut out from the fabric so stepping over the bottom part is necessary to get in and out of the tent. It is possible to trip and fall face first out of the tent so we make sure to keep it away from things like windows and TVs.
Unlike many of Playhuts other tents, this one does not require a pole for the tent which means safer usage for smaller kids and easy set up. This folds into a circle in less than a minute and can be stored in the carrying bag for later use. It takes up very little room when folded in half so that's how we usually store it.
We have a collection of large tents and small tents, each have their own pros and cons. The small tent is so small that you cant do a lot of playing in it however it can fit in any room, even their messy bedroom. Since it is small and takes up very little pace when its folded in half it is able to sit out where it is visible therefore played with a lot more frequently. To set it up it just needs one tug and it pops into place so the kids are able to do that on their own. This does not apply when it is folded into a circle because the force of springing open could cause damage to a child's face or knock them off balance. We have had this for a year now and it is still in nice shape. I figured that the mesh window would be torn by now but they are still hanging strong without snags.
I would not recommend this for sleeping because its much too small but it is fun for pretend play time.
