User Rating: Excellent
Pros:Several pieces, sturdy design, Transformers print, packs away easily, easy to fold/unfold
Cons:LED bulbs in flashlight are too bright.
The Bottom Line: If you have a Transformers lover, you can't go wrong with the Playhut Transformers Adventure Set
What do you get for a little boy who loves Transformers but doesn't really need anymore toys? Why a Transformers Adventure Set of course. This year for Christmas, all my son wanted from Santa was a "big Optimus." I'm not sure where this came from, but we needed to make sure that this happened. Grandpa took care of the toys and Aunt Lori topped the list with the Playhut Transformers Adventure Set. I'm pretty sure that in the past month, due to this set, my son has only slept in his bed a handful of times.

A Set Made for Adventure.
Al in one compact carrying bag, my son found everything he needed to have his very own "camping" adventures in his favorite design of course... Transformers. More specifically the décor of the pieces features Optimus Prime from the Transformers Animated Series (Optimus is the head good-guy) all in bright blues and reds. Our adventure set included a cabana tent, sleeping bag, flashlight and water bottle. All of this comes in a decent sized carry case, which the company calls a backpack - it is not a backpack. I do wonder about the durability of the bag as it is made of nylon, which may rip easier than canvas. There are other combinations in the adventure sets, which could also include things like a watch or compass. Please note that the tent and sleeping bag are not really for use outside.
Cabana Tent - The tent is a typical Playhut pop-up style tent that is enclosed on three sides and completely open in the front. The floor extends out for the sleeping bag to lay on. The tent is made of a sturdy canvass and the metal, spring like frame. I foresee that the material will last for quite a long time since it is so sturdy. As it is the boys have already put it through the ringer and it is as good as new. The back of the tent also features a mesh window shaped like the autobot symbol. Once you are done with the tent it easily folds into a compact size so it fits back into the carrying case.
My Little Man absolutely loves his tent.... I'm pretty sure that since he received the set, he has slept outside of the tent only a handful of times. This also means that there have been milk spills which have cleanly wiped up due to the material. We did also find out that the tent nicely fits on a toddler bed.
Sleeping bag - Just the right length for children approximately 3-8 years old, the sleeping bag also features Optimus Prime. To me the bag feels thin although it does keep him fairly warm. We do generally place another blanket on top of him at night. I probably would not let him use it outside or in colder temperatures. Like most sleeping bags this one can be rolled up and tucked away... in it's clever carrying case.
Flashlight - You can't go on an adventure without a flashlight of course so one is included with this Playhut Adventure set. Taking 2 AA batteries, it's pretty much a typical flashlight with a push button switch. The flashlight utilizes LED lights that are extremely bright. The first lesson we had to give was not pointing the light in faces. The one thing I really like about the flashlight is it has a timed shut off, which comes in handy if Little Man is using it at bedtime.
Water Bottle - This is pretty much just a regular old squirt style water bottle. Actually, I have no idea where this has disappeared to and I'm pretty sure my son doesn't even remember that we have it at this point. It works and come summer time I'm sure we'll use it for outside play.
Off For an Adventure
This has been one of the very best items my son could have gotten for Christmas. He uses the tent often - like I said he's slept in the thing for almost a month now. Outside of sleeping times, we use the tent for reading stories and various playtime adventures. Most of Little Man's pretend play revolves around being rescued or monsters (sometimes both in the same sequence) and the tent comes in handy for many of these stories as well. Even the baby enjoys crawling into the tent, which is easy for him since it has the open front side. He also likes to push on the sides and watch them pop back up. At some point we will move the tent downstairs so it can be played with more during the day with his friends, but for now it's a great item to be just his.
It looks like the Playhut Transformer Adventure Set is selling for around $30, which to me is definitely worth the adventure you get out of it. This would also be good for traveling where a little one could have a vacation adventure while still having a piece of home with them. The when the fun is complete, you just fold everything up and pack it away.
