| Freak369's Full Review: Playmobil Fierce Knights Leader - 7674 |
When it comes to the Playmobil figures that I collect, I am pretty picky. I only choose the ones that are related to the castle and knight series and the creepy ones that I use for Halloween. When I saw the listing for the Fierce Knights Leader at the Playmobil website I knew that Id have to add it to my collection but at the same time I knew that I could get it for less if I shopped around locally before I gave in and order it through the site. It wasnt until I found this figure at Target, purchased it and got it home that I saw all the detail to it as well as all the accessories that came with it. I mean, theres only so much you can get from a photo right? When I got this set home and cracked it open I was in awe of the weapons and couldnt believe that I got all the pieces for under two bucks. Talk about a complete steal!
One of the things that I love about both Playmobil and Lego sets is that with a few basic bricks and bits you can create a thousand and one things. In regards to Playmobil, all of the figures are the same size almost three inches in height. This means that all of the accessories, clothing, weapons and props can be swapped out and used with other pieces. While Lego has branched out and created different sized elements [Duplo, Jack Stone, Explore etc] in a way its a downside since many of these series cant be combined due to the difference in the scale and size of the pieces. Price wise both building systems can get expensive to collect but they do have a high replay value and can be used over and over again as long as the person using them exercises a little bit of care when handling them.
Playmobil Fierce Knights Leader [7674]
The leader of the Fierce Knights is clad in a very nice uniform suitable for jousting, battle or just chewing the fat around the campfire after a long day of pillaging. Hes one of the few stand alone figures that comes battle ready and packed with accessories; and for under two dollars, thats a great way to pick up extra weapons! His uniform is pretty basic with some stenciled chainmail accents on the torso and bright red pants; all the colors work well together and give a very impressive but very neat and streamlined look to the figure. He stands out from the rest of the knights in his regiment as being the only one with all the weapons, the stationary helmet and belt. The others in the series do have these items but none of them come with all of them
like I said, this is a great and inexpensive way to get weapons for other figures or to build up your armory. The only thing that doesnt sit very well with me is that the brown color used for the mace and crossbow is darker than that used for the bow carrier it would have been nice to have all three pieces be the same hue but thats just me.
The Fierce Knight Leader comes with some incredible accessories too! First off the mace is highly detailed and comes on a faux metal [read: plastic] link chain. This gives it a lot of mobility so if you want to smite other knights you can. This snaps nicely into his hands or can be use inside an armory or castle. The downside to this is that the chain that connects the mace to the stick isnt all that strong so any hard tugging or pulling on it will result in having it break apart. You can try to fix it with some needle nosed pliers but your best bet is to just replace it with some metal linkings used for jewelry making that you can find at any craft store. The crossbow and arrows are a really nice touch but you cant ignore the over-the-shoulder bow holder that is removable this means you can add it to any Playmobil figure you like or hang it up in the armory. Some of these pieces are extremely small and require some extra care when storing this also means that they could present a choking hazard if smaller kids get a hold of them.
The Bottom Line
The Fierce Knights Leader has made an excellent addition to my ever-growing collection of Playmobil figures. From my count I only need about forty more to complete it but as soon as I collect all the older figures Im missing I am sure Playmobil will come out with more sets or add on figures. You can find these at places like Zany Brainy or Target but its been my experience that Target has them for the best price, about $1.99. This is a dollar cheaper than the Playmobil Online Store - something that still baffles me since most of the time its cheaper to buy them from the manufactures website than it is in a retail store. This makes a great addition to any Castle or Knight scene and would make a great gift for anyone thats into medieval things.
