Pros:nicely made, durable, nice looking
Cons:small pieces can get lost or swallowed
The Bottom Line: Another great knight from Playmobil. These excellent figures make great toys which encourage imaginative play.
My son loves his Playmobil toys. While I initially started purchasing him sets and figures in the construction line from Playmobil, he showed me on his own that he had an interest in the world of fantasy, and we were soon purchasing castles, dragons, and knights of every sort. In fact, there is such a variety of knights from Playmobil that there seems to be a never-ending selection to choose from.
A recent trip to the store found us purchasing the Playmobil Gold Dragon Leader among other toys. I think what attracted him to this set were the colors along with the dragon insignia on the shield. He picked it up on his own along with several other toys.
The Playmobil Gold Dragon Leader is pretty cool-looking. He has a black beard and black hair, giving the impression of a fierce, brave fighter. His pants and shirt are black, giving an impression of leather. His vest is a brilliant purple with a yellow dragon insignia and a brown belt. In addition, he also has a black helmet with a purple feather coming out the top which matched
the purple of his vest. The colors really contrast nicely.
Playmobil compliments the uniform of the figure with a beautiful shield. Its also purple with the same yellow dragon insignia. A sword is included with the figure for his weaponry. Its gray in color, giving it the illusion of steel.
The Playmobil Gold Dragon Leader fits in nicely with the knights line from Playmobil. All of the weaponry between the various knights are interchangeable, so its not a particularly big deal that this one doesnt have a good selection of weapons. He can trade off with the troops he leads, or other troops in the line if he so chooses.
Thats one of the really nice features of all the toys from Playmobil. They are completely interchangeable and fit in with all of the toys. He can even use the knights as workers on the construction site! This really helps him stimulate his imagination as theres no real proscribed way he has to play with the toys or use them. I like that so much better than him sitting in front of the television all summer long!
Like all the toys from Playmobil, the Playmobil Gold Dragon Leader is made of dyed plastic. The colors do not seem to fade with time, and stay as brilliant as they have ever been. The plastic is high-quality and has some give to it to prevent it from breaking. Theres enough give that snapping the sword or shield into the hands isnt too difficult. I also like that there are no seams with leftover plastic which catch on clothes and fingers while playing.
The pieces are rather small, hence the recommendation by Playmobil that these toys are only for ages four and up. The Playmobil Gold Dragon Leader comes with gray cuffs which snap into place on his arms. These are pieces which can easily be swallowed when they are off, sobe cautious around younger children and pets. They can also end up in the vacuum and disappear!
However, playing with these small pieces can also be a good thing for developing a childs fine motor skills. It was of some concern with my son, and I preferred having him play with small toys like this over trying to color with broken crayons and other suggestions that had been made to me. His ability to actually manipulate the toy gives him great satisfaction as well.
We purchased the Playmobil Gold Dragon Leader from a local store for $2.99. However, the Playmobil Online Store is currently running a special where hes only $1.50 - a great price! Its well worth it as its such a durable toy which will be around for years to come, possibly even until I have grandchildren to play with these.
