Pros:All female figures, nice variety, mix/match potential
The Bottom Line: This is series 1 of Playmobil's mystery packs. Each pack contains one of 12 female figurines!
My oldest daughter is four years old, and she just loves Playmobil. She has had some of the Playmobil 123 sets since she was a toddler, and we started buying her Playmobil sets once she turned four.

On a recent trip to the mall, we stopped in the toy store. They had a small selection of Playmobil sets, and they had something that I had never seen before: mystery packs. What was even more surprising was that they had special pink mystery packs geared towards girls. We bought two packs and brought them home.
There are 12 figurines in series one, and you don't know which figurine you're getting until you open it up! I know that Lego has been doing something similar with their minifigs, so I suppose Playmobil has seen how successful that has been, and they're trying to get in on the game.
Each pack contains one unassembled Playmobil figurine. The assembly process is slightly more difficult than putting together a Lego minifigures, but it's not too tricky. It doesn't take any more than a couple of minutes to attach the arms and head, and to snap on the hair.
I'm rather pleased with the selection. All of the figurines in the pink mystery packs are female. So far, we have gotten a mermaid and a fairy princess. Some of the other figurines that we haven't gotten yet are the cavewoman, the bandit, the jockey, the rock star, the skier, and the witch. There seem to be a few other princesses/queens in that group of 12, but like I said, I am pleased that there is a nice variety.
Each figurine comes with a couple of accessories, and you are invited to mix and match the accessories to create original and unique characters.
At $3.99 per pack, this is a good value. My daughter loves to collect these figurines, and has already asked if we can get some more. This has been a nice incentive/reward for her! Also, I have to admit that I am looking forward to getting some more of these packs... my daughter hopes that we find another of the princess figurines, but I'm really hoping that we can get the bandit!
The suggested age on the mystery packs is age 5 and up. The age for the regular Playmobil sets is 4 and up. I think this discrepancy is because of the assembly process. My daughter wouldn't be able to assemble the figures on her own, but she is perfectly capable of playing with them. I do want to point out that many of the accessories that come with the figures are quite small, so you should be very careful if you have small children in the house.
If you are interested in female Playmobil figurines, then I highly recommend you pick up a pink mystery pack or two. I do know that they also have blue mystery packs with male figurines. I don't have any experience with the blue packs, but that's also out there. My daughter loves the mystery aspect and not knowing what she's going to get, and I think the price and selection are great!
