| carneys_ID's Full Review: Playskool 1-2-3 High Chair |
The Playskool 1-2-3 High Chair was the best baby gift I could have received when my first daughter was born. It has served me well thru two kids (and hopefully more!)
I had a "regular" high chair waiting to be used, but not till she could sit up on her own fairly well (about 6 months). When this gift arrived in the mail I was so pleased! My daughter could now sit with me (and not on the floor in a bouncy chair or car seat) while I was cleaning, working, eating because of the wonderful tilt back feature this chair has. Needless to say, we returned the other chair.
There are three positions for the chair to sit in - the first is leaned back so baby can be comfortable. The second is slightly reclined for babies learning to eat solids. The third is upright for older babies and kids.
Everything on the chair is rounded, so I don't have to worry about catching my clothes or other things on the edges. And walking into it in the dark isn't dangerous to my shins.
The seat back and bottom are two nicely padded parts - very thick and still not worn down a bit after three years of almost continuous use. Made of a vinyl material, it's very easy to remove and clean. Even the seatbelt comes off (with some work) for machine washing.
The piece that fits between the legs (to hold the tray in a locked position) is removable for older kids and helps keep those squirmy younger ones in there nice and tight. The escape artist of the family won't be able to get this piece off and shimmy under and away.
The tray has Microban protection on it and that's great for peace of mind. (Keep away you nasty germies!) It's a large tray, one a kid would be hard pressed to climb over, with a built in groove around the inside edge large enough to keep spills and Cheerios on the tray. It's very easy to clean and doesn't hold many stains (after a three year old and my 9 month old, it's only got a few crayon marks and some slight red tomato sauce marks from last week). The best part about it is the tray which removes with only one hand!
The back of the seat has a built in space perfect to hold bibs or toys. The legs of the seat are wide and won't rock much even with the most enthusiastic one year old. The foot rest is still the right size for my three year old to rest her feet when sitting in the chair.
The whole seat moves up and down to whatever height you need it. This requires two hands (and isn't to be done when baby is in the seat) but isn't too difficult.
The Playskool 1-2-3 High Chair is also convertible for the active toddler. It lowers close to the ground and the center piece removes for easy in and out. My three year old loves to use it when her sister isn't in it. A perfect fit for coloring at the table.
The only drawback with this seat is that it takes up a lot of room when in use and doesn't fold down small when put away.
This chair is perfect for the toddler who wants to sit at the table or color using the tray, the infant who wants to sit near mom, or the starving kid who needs fed NOW!
