| savagefamily's Full Review: Playskool 1-2-3 High Chair |
I've been the proud owner of this chair for a year now, and we've had our ups and downs together.
For starters, my husband had the worst time getting the thing together. It must have taken him an hour. And during the process, one of the pieces under the tray that makes it slide snapped off. I'm sure if I called, Playskool would send a replacement, but I swear I never think of it! We also noticed that there are these screws on the outsides of the back legs that are very sharp. We always worried about it, and just about a month ago, my son fell and hit his head on one, leaving a nice deep scrape. We've since covered them with tape, but he just peels it right off. Playskool should check it's design a little better for sharp parts.
Just like my fellow reviewers have said, the cushions have really deep grooves that trap food in them, and cannot be cleaned without taking the whole cushion off, something I didn't think I'd have to do all the time. And not only does white cloth seatbelt not come off for easy cleaning, but it just doesn't fit my son. We've encountered alot of belts like this that are too small to fit around a baby's waist that wears big cloth diapers like my son. So we had to stop using it, and just keep a very close eye on him so he won't fall out.
But enough of the bad, let's get to the good part. The tray is easily removed with one hand, and adjusts to 3 positions so it's not too close or too far from your baby's body. If you've never seen one of these before, you won't know how to use it (I didn't and neither did about 5 other people) but once you get it, it's a breeze to slide the tray on and off.
It's also got Microban protection. I don't know exactly how well this works, but it makes me feel like it's clean and safe?! And it's easily cleaned in our kitchen sink with a soapy sponge. I have noticed if you let spaghetti sauce sit for a few hours though, you'll get a tough to remove stain that eventually fades, this is when I hope that Microban kicks in.
It adjusts to 6 heights, which is great for when your baby's a toddler and eats at the big table with you. No matter what height your table, he'll feel right at home. It's also got an option to recline it to 3 positions for newborns up, but I didn't get this chair until my son was 9 months old, and was too big to ever use this feature.
It's also got a wide base, which holds it up well. I've never seen it tip over. My son's even stood in it and shook it with all his 25 lb. might, and it slides on the wooden floor, but I've never seen it have a chance to fall.
Finally, I'll end by saying mine has the worst looking pattern I've ever seen on a high chair. They call it "collage" but I don't fall for it. It looks more like a bunch of really whacked out shapes, spirals, and weird sun-like patterns moshed together. I figure by now, they've hopefully come out with a new line of patterns. But this doesn't really matter. What does matter is that it's given me the security I need in a high chair (except for that pointy screw thing). It really is a place my son spends a lot of time. And it's good that he likes it there!
