| tuamiga's Full Review: Playskool 1-2-3 High Chair |
I take shopping for baby equipment seriously and when looking into high chairs I did my research. On most web bulletin boards people recommended the Playskool 1-2-3, so that's what I purchased.
Upon unpacking it we discovered it was missing a few pieces. We called Playskool, got the parts and were up and running. My son is now nineteen months old, so I've been using the high chair for over a year. My experiences were as follows.
Because I waited until age 6 months to start my son on solids, I didn't take much advantage of the reclining feature. I was grateful for the wide tray as my son (like most babies) was an extremely messy eater and wanted to self feed by around seven months. The large number of positions the chair can adjust to don't really seem necessary, but I have moved it from "highchair" height to a height where it slides under our table so my son can join us for dinner. Since the chair is pretty large my strapping toddler still fits very comfortably.
Drawbacks of the chair were as follows:
It wasn't as easy clean as people said. Food collects under the removable pillow and it can get pretty yucky. Removing the pillow takes a little work and the vinyl by the straps is a little torn because I take the buckles in and out so much. The chair was so big and bulky that dragging it to the shower or out to be hosed down was impractical. Besides, then you have to clean all those yucky food particles out of your shower. One feature that I considered in my purchase was the fact that the chair was "foldable". The fact is the seat is so big that there's really no point in folding it. Then all you have is a top heavy item that takes up about the same amount of room. Finally, one of the "feet" which stabilize the chair have come off and I have yet to convince my husband to put it back. My son is big enough that he will rock the chair back and forth when he is impatient and wants to get out.
I am not entirely dissatisfied with this product, but it seems like there must be something better out there. Good luck in your search for the perfect high chair!
