Pros:Never wash a bottle again! Reasonably priced; so convenient; sturdy - don't leak!
The Bottom Line: The Bottom Line hasn't washed a baby bottle yet!
I. Hate. Dishes. Is that clear enough? So, when registering for and buying baby items, this was something to consider. Any bottle we purchased absolutely had to be easy to wash. And dishwasher-safe doesnt always mean easy to clean, because there will always be times when the dishwasher fails and youre left with a sponge and a sink full of dishes. Anyone who has kids knows that baby bottles are one of the most awful things to have to hand wash. And this is how we came to own Playtex Disposable Bottles and, out of necessity, Playtex Drop-Ins Disposable Liners.

So whats the big idea?
Playtex Drop-In liners work with the Playtex Nurser system. Playtex Nurser bottles are sort of like a bottle shell - they are a hollow plastic bottle form with no bottom. Instead, you use a liner, and when the bottle is empty you simply throw the liner away, and voila! - no washing required, except for the nipple.
There are two types of liners: the old style soft liners which are difficult to fit into the bottle, and these, the Drop Ins. Drop-Ins are semi-stiff plastic sleeves which, as the name says, you simply drop into the nurser. A hard plastic lip around the top of the sleeve catches on the rim of the bottle, holding it in place. This allows for one-handed assembly, a godsend when youre holding the baby in your other arm. They are soft enough to give when pressure is applied or when baby drinks so that the bottle does not fill with air, causing excess gas for baby. The liners are a clear plastic and are clearly marked in one ounce increments, making measuring just as easy as in a standard bottle. You can pair these with any Playtex cap or nipple as well, so if you use other Playtex products, the interchangeability is an added convenience. Breastmilk can be stored in these as long as you top the bottle with a cap and not a nipple.
Playtex designed the boxes to act as a dispenser, but I find that it is incredibly difficult to pull a single liner through the little hole in the box, at least not with one hand. Instead, I pull out a small stack and leave them in my baby bottle assembly area allowing for truly one-hand assembly of a bottle. I could probably do it with my feet at this point if the need ever arose. The liners are designed for single use only, and you should NOT wash it out and reuse it. I have to admit, in a pinch I have reused a liner. Out shopping one day I was out for longer than expected and had only packed one bottle, but I had a spare can of ready-to-feed formula. So, I rinsed out the liner and reused it. No catastrophe occurred, and baby was not harmed in any way. I just do not advise doing this on a regular basis, as you do not want to start harvesting bacteria.
I have not had any problems with these liners at all - no leaks or explosions. I mix the powdered formula in the liners, using a bottle cap instead of the nipple and ring and not once have they leaked. I also warm the formula inside the liner - oftentimes I prepare several of the nurser bottles with liners full of formula in advance so that Im not trying to assemble it with a cranky baby at four in the morning. I make three or four, put them in the fridge, and warm in the bottle warmer as needed. Again, no leaks or exploders. An added convenience of using these liners is that when we go visiting relatives, I prepare a Nurser bottle with liner, nipple, and cap and put just the formula powder inside - that way, I can add water only at feeding time, reducing the chance of a bottle explosion inside the diaper bag.
Playtex Drop-In Liners are available in boxes of 50 and 100 in both 4-ounce and 8-ounce sizes. My son primarily uses the four ounce size, but occasionally when I know well be out of the house for a while I prepare one larger bottle so that I dont have to carry as many things around with me. The price is a bit steep - we typically pay $3.99 for 50 of the 4-ounce liners. I have to admit, I often opt for the store brand version of these liners, because they work just as well but are half the price.
My final thoughts
These liners have made life so much easier for me and my husband that I would never go to a regular bottle, especially with formula or breastmilk, which are difficult to clean out of a standard bottle. I find it is well worth the extra cost - about an extra $10 a month, as we typically go through two boxes of 100 liners each month. The amount of time I save each day not repeatedly scrubbing out bottles is a bonus as well, and it is nice to know that I always have a clean bottle if I need one in a hurry. I also dont worry when I leave bottles with Grandma or a sitter that the bottle wont be cleaned properly - both Grandma and sitter have had a tendency to not thoroughly clean the traditional bottles out or left a soap residue, so this is a little added peace of mind. Overall, if this is a feasible option for you, I would highly recommend it.
