Pros: Nice toy, well made, and may keep dogs engaged in some activity.
Cons: Does not keep them engaged for as long as the box promises.
The Bottom Line: For the price I really can't recommend this toy.

| MARIEROY's Full Review: Plush Puppies Hide A Squirrel |
Hide A Squirrel is a puzzle plush Hide N' Seek Dog toy. I spotted this in Petco and was intrigued by what the package promised.
"A durable long-lasting dog toy. Keeps pets occupied and eliminates bordom. Insert the squirrels inside the tree for your dog to remove over and over and over again.
This product promises to develop and strengthen eye-paw coordination skills as your pet discovers how to remove the squeaker squirrels from inside the Hide A Squirrel. This product keeps your dog entertained, active, and busy for extended periods of time, eliminating boredom. It helps to satisfy a dog's natural instinct to search, stalk and capture its prey as your pet repeatedly removes the squeaker squirrels from inside the Hide A Squirrel. For additional fun and variety, you can place favorite pet treats or other toys inside the Hide A Squirrel. This product is machine washable and is made with safe, non-toxic materials.
The package tells you to first introduce the squeaker squirrels by removing them from inside the Hide a Squirrel. You encourage your dog to play with them. As your dog watches, insert the squeaker squirrels back into the Hide A Squirrel.
Your dog will learn and discover how to remove the squirrels from inside the plush tree. The dog will use its nose to remove the toy and will gradually learn how to empty it. Your pet is rewarded by finding the prey, the squirrels, with each successful play.
After your dog has removed all of the squirrels, fill the Hide A Squirrel again and repeat for unlimited fun.
Okay, this is what I've done. I've had this toy for a week now. I just gave it to my puppy, making sure the squeaker squirrels were inside. She played with it for a total of about five minutes. She left the thing, with squirrels still inside near the sliding glass doors. And she herself is sleeping in her doggie bed. So much for keeping her alert. Maybe she's tired because she has been on the go all morning and into the late afternoon. And also I just fed her. Maybe she's simply bored with this toy. I'm not sure.
But I do know this morning I gave her an empty paper towel roll, the cardboard that comes in the middle and I'm guessing she played with that for longer than five minutes.
The part about how this product challenges and entertains pets, well maybe, maybe not. I think if I were to put the actual box down that the thing came in, my puppy would probably play longer with the empty box.
Go figure.
I think at $20 this toy is pricey and I am not happy that I paid this price. I could've bought a slew of paper towels and given her the empty towel holder to keep her "challenged and entertained" for hours.
