Back in December of 1999 I was on my way to San Francisco for a business trip and I needed a place to go for dinner. One of my co-workers lived in San Francisco a few years ago and since we share the same taste in foods I asked her what restaurant she recommended. She told me I had to go to Pluto's in the Marina District. So, the first night I was in the city I decided to give it a try.
At first, when I walked in, it reminded me of my middle school cafeteria. You wait in line, tell the cooks what you would like to order, then they make it and hand you your plate. However, once I sat down and tried the food my opinion completely changed. It was definitely one of the best meals I have ever had. I have since moved to Northern California from Los Angeles and I eat at Pluto's every couple of weeks.
The choices of food they offer would suit anyone. They custom make their salads with whatever ingredients you want in it. Their sandwiches are made on focaccia bread (the chicken sandwich is especially good). They have plenty of side dishes to choose from including fresh cooked seasonal vegetables and mashed potatoes and to top it all off, they have delicious baked deserts made fresh daily.
The only thing you have to look out for it the time of day you go. Around 6 o'clock it gets pretty busy, but believe me the wait it well worth it.
I would recommend Pluto's to anyone who wants the freshness and taste of a home-cooked meal without the trouble of actually having to prepare it yourself!
