| tchoate's Full Review: Polaris 65 Pool Cleaner |
We bought our above ground swimming pool 2 years ago. Our oldest son, worked at pool supply company at the time. He was the one that suggested we purchase the Polaris 65 to clean our pool.
Since we had never had a pool before, we didn't know much about what to purchase to help with the cleaning. The manager of the store where my son worked, agreed with him about purchasing the Polaris. At the time we purchased it, they had it on sale for $199.00. We felt the price was right, for all they told us this pool cleaner would do. We purchased the Polaris and brought it home and immediately put it in our pool.
We had the pool for about 2 weeks when we purchased the Polaris and hadn't vacuumed it at all. Our pool is not setup in an area that has a lot of trees around it, so we didn't have many leaves in the pool, but we did have sand. We are not sure how, but somehow there seems to always be sand on the bottom of our pool. We hooked up the Polaris and went to bed for the night, by the next morning my pool was as clean as I had ever seen it.
The Polaris 65 is very easy to use, it has a hose that connects to your return inside your pool. Inside this connection is a small wire filter, that helps filter anything that is coming back into your pool. The hose itself has a connection on it that you just have to push into the return, and turn about 90 degrees and it is ready to go. This hose hooks to the main part of the Polaris, the body has jets in the bottom that helps the Polaris move around your pool and also will push water onto the sides to get off any stubborn dirt from the side from your pool. On the bottom of the Polaris body, another hose hooks that has a medium size filtration bag attached to it this sweeps along the bottom of the pool to pick up any particles of dirt, leaves or bugs that are on the bottom of the pool.
The Polaris does make a huffing and puffing sound as it goes around your pool, but boy does it ever clean your pool. Like I mentioned before we have lots of sand in our pool and believe it or not the bag on bottom even picks up and holds the sand in the bag. All you have to do is plug it into the return and make sure the small filter and bag are clean and you will have a clean pool shortly. We were told that for the Polaris to clean our pool to the best of its ability it would need to be in our pool for about 8 hours. We usually put ours in at night before bedtime and by morning we have a clean and sparkling pool. We have used it during the day after we have had a large crowd swimming and waited about 3 hours and it was clean enough for the crowd again. The best results are when you leave it in overnight.
We have had our Polaris about 2 years now and have had to replace only one part in it and that part was under warranty. We got quick shipment of the part to us and my husband replaced the small part in about 5 minutes. The customer service that we have dealt with has been through our local pool supply and they have always answered our questions very quickly.
Thanks to the Polaris 65 we have only had to vacuum our pool twice since we have had it. The first time was after my husband built a deck around the pool and he felt with all the saw dust that had gathered in the pool it needed to be vacuumed. The Polaris still picked up a good bit of saw dust even after my husband had vacuumed the pool.
The only drawback we have found to using this product is that it cannot clean very good behind our ladder, but we just use our brush to brush out the debris behind the ladder and the Polaris takes over from there.
My husband and I think this is the best purchase we have made for our pool. It has made keeping it clean so easy. We don't have to put forth any effort at all and always have a sparkling clear pool.
The Polaris 65 may huff and puff but it always leaves us with a sparkling clean pool. If you have an above ground pool, this is definitely a purchase I would suggest you making. It will be worth every dime you spend on it. I Promise!!!!
