Pros: Rotating screen, screen quality, package comes with everything you need.
Cons: Non-existent skip protection, poor case design, bad location for infrared reader
The Bottom Line: I would NOT recommend purchasing this product, especially if it is to be used as a portable player.

| tonys-opinion's Full Review: Polaroid PDM-1040 10 in. Portable DVD Player |
I recently purchased this product as a Christmas present. I explained to two employees at Circuity City that I needed a portable DVD player that would work in the car. Both recommended this product as the one to buy. I will say that the screen is pretty good and the sound is not bad considering the speakers are small (as with all portable DVD players). However, this product is NOT good for the road. The player would consistently freeze for 1-30 seconds, then skip ahead. This occurred about 40 times over a 2 hour trip, using multiple movies (all new, all original). When we returned home, I setup the player on my desk and it did the same thing while sitting perfectly still (again, multiple movies). We also noticed that the screen would be upside down when turned on or would take up to 3-5 minutes to finish "loading". I do like the feature of rotating the screen 180 degrees and then folding onto itself, however, the case design made it difficult when it came time to changing movies. Also, the infrared reader is in a poor location while in the case (at the top facing up). Regardless of all the features, the basic function of this player is to be portable and work while in a moving vehicle. The Electronic Skip Protection does not live up to what was promised. I really think Circuit City should rethink selling this product. I am going to return this product and upgrade to a Panasonic.
