maggsmomm's Full Review: Polaroid i733 Digital Camera
Polaroid i733 Digital Camera
I have yet to read a users manual for any electronics I own. I base most of my buying decisions upon others recommendations or current trends. Function and necessity sway most of my purchases. Since Im a novice when it comes to photography, the Polaroid 1733 Digital Camera was a great buy. It does most of the work for me, and as I learn the camera has grown with me, not beyond me.
I do know that the number of mega pixels is what gives your photos good quality. Higher mega pixels mean better photos. My i733 has a 7.1mp resolution. Photos of any size can be reproduced & printed as small or as large as you want (from 2x3 to 11x14) while not losing any of the quality.
The first things that attracted me to this camera were:
*2.5 LCD screen-The display is not only large, but you can actually SEE what you're shooting. Its great for taking, reviewing , and customizing each photo. It isn't scratch resistant but I've yet to scratch the screen. This camera has been everywhere but in its case, such as the bottom of my purse. Its very well made.
*4x Digital zoom/3x Optical zoom allows you to get closer to your subject without taking a step.

Upon opening the box you will find the camera, a black wrist strap, a white transparent skin, usb cord, input jack, users manual, and batteries. Be prepared to read. Unfortunately you cannot just load the batteries and shoot. You will also need to purchase a separate memory card. The one included with the camera only holds a few photos (maybe 4)-you can find them for as little as ten dollars that hold over 200 photos at a 7mp resolution.
*Beginners can use the Q Mode which adjusts all the settings for you. This is the one I started off with and I became accustomed to the camera I began exploring all it features & settings.
*Flash settings include auto, on/off, fill, and red eye reduction.
*The drive mode has a 2 & 10 second delay timer as well as double & auto burst that shoots 2-4 photos for quick capture.
*You can control the resolution, as well as use movie mode which includes rewind, pause, play, etc. The recording quality of sound is not that great but works well enough for beginners. Movie mode captures frame by frame for interesting but high quality mini clips.
*Images are easily uploaded to your computer by usb port. Or to your television with input/output cords. Just plug them in-and thats it!
*Editing is a breeze with features such as cropping, resizing, effects (sepia, b&w, red, green, blue). You can add voice to photos and add photos as your backlight.
*Some of the cooler effects - Children, Fireworks, Buildings, Text, Snow, Night Scenes, Landscapes, Food, Backlight, & Sunset.
*Picture quality can be set to Super Fine, Fine and Normal. Metering, White Balance, Exposure, Iso, Drive Mode can all be found at a quick push of the menu button located on the back of the camera. It doesn't take an expert to find as well as utilize these settings. Flipping through each one is enough of a tutorial to get you started using these functions.
*You are able to program the cameras function and all functions being utilized show up as icons on the screens display.
*The camera itself and although not the sleekest of digital cams, it is compact 3.5w, 2.4h and lightweight at 6 ounces. The small black wrist strap helps me keep up with it when on the go. Id love to have flat, but the price and resolution were the right scale for me.
*My favorite feature which is also the most economical is the auto shut off which saves battery life. I invested in rechargeable batteries for my electronics since most digital cameras suck the life out of disposable batteries rather quickly.
My overall experience with this camera has been great. I have shot photos of my girls outside and indoors, had the images printed at an online store and a local store in all sort of sizes. The largest was a 8x10 and the quality was good it was hard to tell if the photo was taken professionally at a studio. This isn't the case when the camera isn't set to a flash mode. There seems to be a defect with some of the cameras that were sold, when the flash is not in use the pictures turn brownish and are extremely distorted. The only way i've found to correct the problem is return the product for another. Unfortunately the only place I can now find these cameras being sold (at their original price) is at walmart.com.
I am a little disappointed with the time it takes to capture one picture then another-there is a rather long delay. However these two small inconveniences are very small trade offs for the other features that work extremely well.
All of the cameras options are laid out in an easy to read, find manner that work great for people like me that need a camera for day to day photos or the expert who would like to have a camera just to tote along with them.
I love my Polaroid i733. I purchased it at my local Wal*Mart for $129.99 w/o tax or new memory card. I have since read that they would stop selling these in March however they are still being sold on walmart.coms website. I mention the store only because this camera, exact same styling but different features and mega pixels is being sold at other retailers for the same amount of money or more. They dont have the same pictures and the resolution isnt as good. Try finding this online or a ship-to-store method. It's a great buy and you wont be disappointed.
